Ben Gordon considering Europe, according to ESPN

Post#1 » by MitchSlapped » Mon Jul 28, 2008 11:53 pm

According to ESPN, Bulls restricted free agent guard Ben Gordon may consider going to Europe to play rather than staying in the United States. He says he would rather play in the NBA next season, but the Euro League is appealing to him.

I don't understand why this guy is asking for 10 mil a year when he's 6'3 and the bulls have derrick rose.
the only way he gets that if some euro team overpays for him.

however i would like ben to go to europe.

I read a few days ago he got an offer for 2 years $20 million tax free...

That's a lot of money to turn down to take a qualifying offer in Chicago if they're not going to give him a big 5 or 6 year deal.

He was asked directly if he would consider playing in Europe, his response was that he would consider it.

There's nothing to show that he has even been offered a deal.

There have not been any reports that he will sign but there have been numerous reports in Europe he has been offered a contract by Olympiacos the same team that signed Childress. The contract would be considerably larger than the one Childress got. This is not rumors either the owners of the team have stated they have made the offer.

He can claim whatever he wants. The OWNERS of the team, two rich brothers stated they did in fact make an offer to him. You are talking about the team's general manager says to the Chicago press about a matter in trying to steal him from the Bulls.

The owners of the team said that Gordon and his agent didn't accept the offer but they made it very clear AFTER Childress was signed Gordon was offered more than Childress got. I don't care if you don't believe it.

do u have one simple source before expecting people to just let you dismiss a team official's own words? it shouldn't be that hard with the numerous reports u previously mentioned.

I think that it would be kind of amazing to see Gordon in Europe. He would be a major star over there. Here he's just a medium sized fish in a vast pond but over there he will be one of the biggest fish. If I were him I would do it for a year or two make a bunch of money and then come back to the US and play for a contending team, that way he can get his money and a shot at a championship too.

Agreed. Clearly, this guy is a paycheck-player. How unfortunate. If I were an NBA GM, I would have serious doubts about signing a guy as focused on his pay day as Ben Gordon.

Why is this not in the "All Things Euro" thread, especially since this is more baseless speculation.
