Obviously Nady has been great since he became a Yank, but how does that make Abreu expendable. Abreu has been by far the best Yankee offensively all season. And considering Melkys terribly dissapointing year, and the uncertain status that the Yanks will have with Matsui and Damon going forward, i think it is a must that we resign Abreu, especially if he will sign for a 2-3 year deal.
I don't want an OF next year of Damon/Melky/Nady/Matsui, even if you say someone like Gardner or Jackson maybe ready to play everyday when Damon/Matsui gets hurt. Abreu needs to come back next year IMO.

Damon just makes this team go when he is hot, he makes a lot more happen with his speed and the at bats he puts together. I can't even keep track of how many times he has started a game with an 8 or 9 pitch at bat and really put the pitcher in a hole right out of the game.

I just meant that if it came down to one of the two, Damon is the guy we should keep over Matsui if we had to trade one. But I'd much rather stick Nady in right, Damon in left, and DH Matsui. I think that would be ideal, assuming we sign Teixeira and let Giambi walk.

However, I do see your point about not locking up a 1B long-term for a number of reasons. I can see Juan Miranda playing a big role at 1B next season if that does happen.
We are going to be in a really tough position this offseason for both the offense and the pitching staff.
