If you were working as a cashier at Walmart for $8 an hour, then you get offered to work at K-Mart for $40 an hour, would you want to stay and be the best cashier Walmart has ever seen and get the Employee of the Month, or take the money and go to K-Mart?

K-Mart FTW!

That is completely different. You can't really support yourself for 8 dollars an hour. So of course you take the job.

If you are already making 10 million post taxes, you got more than enough money. 40 million more a year, doesn't really matter. Unless you have some big plan to own a team or become the richest man in the world.

And I'm not being a hypocrite. If I was happy where I lived and was making the 10 million, I wouldn't leave the country for an extra 40 million. I'm not hating on any player who decides to take the money either. Just pointing out, when you are making that kind of money, a pay raise doesn't mean as much.

but thats your opinion! most millionaires didn't become millionaires thinking they way you do. lebron clearly stated he wants to earn a lot of money during his career - he stated he wanted to be a billionaire some day - and most players in the nba truly care about the money. don't think of it as greed. they are being proactive - they are getting prepared for when things get tight or when that bitchy wife asks for half. they may be athletes but that doesn't mean they can't see a gold digger just biding her time for half of the pie. there's a good 50 players on the NY Giants roster that learned from Micheal Strahan.

I can see both the pros and cons for Lebron. I think there are more positives for him and his wallet. I doubt he stays there long and he could possibly benefit greatly from it. I'd prefer him to stick with the NBA, but I see things changing if he goes overseas, and it could mean more television contracts for the US to watch him. If that's the case I'm all for that because I would much prefer to watch more Euro basketball throughout the future and Lebron would pave the way for that. The overseas world would open up for them more and us at the same time.

This is only speculation, but it would be a very positive thing for us fan, so I'm all for whatever benefits us and the player.

Why hate on Lebron for going for the cash?

Every American in America does it. Greed, essentially, is what this country is founded on. Free market economy, competition, and getting what you can while you can get it.

You might work 10 years at a major corporation making an extremely comfy income but the second a more lucrative offer comes by, people take it. Shouldn't those people be less greedy and stay with the company that has paid their bills for the last ten years? Hell the **** no.

The problem here is that people hold these athletes to different standards. They place ideals on them they wish they had. If an athlete doesn't sign every autograph he's an ****. If he takes the most money, he's greedy. If gets in a scrape with the law, he's a thug. If he doesn't say the right thing all the time, he's not a role model.

We elected George Bush as our president didn't we? He's had a DUI and has been a reputed cokehead? And that is suppose to be the moral leader of this country? LOL! And what about the 200 or so elected republicans that have had cases against them for pedophilia! And they call themselves the "moral party." Sadly, democrats are no better.

In the end, get over it.

I don't think lebron can be a global icon despite all the marketing Nike can throw at you. He is simply not good looking enough. If you look at so called global icon, they are not only the best, the most marketed but also they have kind of "soft" image. Lebron is great as a basketball player but he looks brutal (including his face). And he doesn't look like the smartest guy around either to upset that.

Actually looks are even more important than talent as shown by David Beckham or Kournikova .. And Look at Jordan, Tiger Woods, Sharapova. All good looking (enough) and the guys look like good guys.

The young basketball star that has a lot of marketability is Dwayne Wade. More than Lebron. It was a huge mistake by Nike as i'm sure If they had invested all that money in Wade, he would be a far bigger star. In Europe Lebron is not well known at all, the few people outside baskbetall ball who know him, it's only because of his contract or something like that .. And his shoes and apparels don't sell well either especially compared to the money injected by Nike in "the Lebron project"

I don't think Lebron or Kobe would leave for Europe.
Anyway they are being smart enough to consider those offers out loud in order to get better contracts in the NBA.
