Mike Miller and Jason Collins to the Lakers for Lamar Odom

This was by far my favorite this morning, as it provides exactly what both the Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves need. On the Lakers side it gives them a true small forward in Mike Miller who shoots lights-out and will even defend a little, as compared to Vladimir Radmanovic. Jason Collins is a solid defender, though he won't score at all, and would give LA the back-up they need for Andrew Bynum. On the Timberwolves side it's all about cap space. It would be unfortunate for Odom to have to spend a season losing night in and night out after being in the Finals last year, but you know what they say . . .basketball is a business.

I say this is our best option only because of salary cap reasons. I am not sure how much Miller makes but I am guessing it's not alot and it never will be so this is the trade they should do so they can still max out the big man and be fine.

Well Mike Miller is superior in every way than Radman - better scorer , better defender , better player . Jason Collins ..... ? is he better than Mihm , or just another body on the bench ?

First, kingkobe, you shouldn't take other people's writings and pass them off for your own, here and on the Trade Board.

Second, this trade makes no sense for MIN at all. Collins is already an expiring, so are you (I mean, "Bill Ingram") saying that Mike Miller isn't worth his deal in the $9's? Miller actually fits the Wolves well. McHale thought he made last year's team too young, but the 27 year old Miller helps provide veteran leadership. His position flexibility is useful depending on which young wolves develop. And being raised in South Dakota, he grew up seeing Minneapolis as a cultural mecca! Wolves fans rarely see a player who is so happy to join the team. Odom I assume, is best at PF, which is the Wolves most crowded position (Al Jefferson, Kevin Love, Craig Smith, Ryan Gomes), so a deal would make much more sense as a three-way, to a third team that is competing this year, and still wants the expiring. Odom can still produce.

If the Lakers wanted to convince the wolves to make a cap space deal, it should be something like Mike Miller and Brian Cardinal for Odom. Both of these guys are two year deals, but I don't know for the Lakers. Assuming you get nothing from Cardinal, it would mean you think that Miller is better for the team than Odom for the same money this year (I think he might be, because of the fit), but that he's also worth $15 mil in expirings in 2009. That's a big question. I will say he's perhaps the best shooter in the game (FG +50% with all those three's) and he has a lot of general skills to help everywhere. With Bynum coming back, does adding Miller put you over the top the next two years? ::shrug::

Still, the original deal, Miller + Collins for Odom, is pretty much a non-starter for the Wolves.

More CAP Space Offer

Post#665 » by greenway84 » Tue Sep 16, 2008 6:07 pm

I know you guys have a lot of great players to sign. I was wondering if you would be interested in moving Walton.

Walton
1st
-----------
McRoberts
Baston
Graham

All who exp after this season. This is in no way a talent trade. Financial CAP space only. Essentially you get to move Waltons long contract at the cost of a first.

I think we would have to put you on the payroll along with Chris Wallace of memphis if you got that one to go through.....

get rid of luke's contract....WOW

gain three young players with min. salaries.....WORKS HERE

ya, we lose a first rounder, but it will be bottom 2 or 3 anyway so it's like a 2nd rounder.

Mitch would kiss for feet for this one

I actually like walton and to be honest he better than baston, graham, and McBob combined. So he would actually play. and even though its a long contract size wise its not bad really. in comparison to what we have now. lol. But I just realized you guys dont even have a 1st rd draft pick this year so i guess that doesnt work.

Cool, if you Luke is better than all three of those guys combined, you don't really need the 1st round pick right?

So Luke for the three that you mentioned and it's all good.

Five white guys on an NBA court at the same time -- I think that would probably cause some sort of catastrophic inter-dimensional rift.

LOLOLOLOLOL, the Lakers are not giving away another 1st rounder. Then to take those 3 guys................hell no. I understand you said it was for financial purposes but the salaries don't come close. And Luke ain't worth blowin a 1st on, Pau was but not Luke.

Im one of the few on this board who believe Luke will have a career year (or at least relevant/successful) this upcoming season.

With that said, i'll pass on this trade.

According to history, Larry Bird would be down for that. :D

If Luke's reported prognosis is as worse as reported, I'd certainly consider this trade. Atleast McRoberts is worth 6 fouls to give in the frontcourt.

I thought Luke was going to have a good season too but supposedly his ankle is still messed up and from my observation Luke just isnt the same player when he has a nagging injury... I've always said: For every Allen Iverson there is a Jermaine ONeal..... Kobe is obviously the AI type, while a Mihm and Luke are the latter

Seems to me like Luke will be buried on the bench (to start the season at least).... Which means Radman will get more minutes... Hopefully he is up to the task and plays well so we can dump him like we did with Cook last year, or Rush a few years ago

Really? Didnt he just have ankle surgery to remove those bone spurs, or did that go wrong?

I honestly havent heard anything. That would suck if he's not healthy by season's start.
