Manny ain't happening. Forget about it folks. His agent is looking for a 4-5 yr deal around 85 million. No way we're gonna pay him so much money and deal with his attitude later on. Players like Manny wear their welcome out pretty soon with their attitude and its best that we sign him to no more than 2 years at most.

If Manny doesn't happen, I wouldn't be opposed to trading for Huff from the Orioles, they need a first baseman (Overybay).

I just was reading some blogs and so forth and it looks like Mike Wilner is saying the Jays might be the best fit for Man-Ram just for the simple fact that the Mets need arms and so do the Yanks. I wouldn't count the Yanks out just yet for the simple fact that they have a unlimited payroll it looks like and they could always use a player to piss off the Red Sox's.

I think 6 years is a tad much for Manny I would do 4 years tops at $90,000,000 maybe 5 if it's a Team Option other then that I would pass.

Honestly, deep down I know that it's too much for a guy of his age, but I feel like the Jays need a player like Manny to rejuvenate the fan base. When Manny's deal is up, our younger players will be coming into their prime and we can go in a new direction.

I think it would take getting rid of BJ, not pursuing AJ, and maybe trading Lyle.

Now personally, I think that losing BJ and Lyle for Manny is a fair trade off (because I think AJ is gone regardless)... so I would say do it, he isn't the type of player that is going to hit poorly as he ages, and he's going to love the laid back atmosphere in Toronto, to an extent.

I don't know how anyone could opposte signing him. Yes, when he gets near his 40s he'll suck... but by that time Halladay will be old anyways and we're not gonna be winning **** anyways. With Manny, we have the possibility of contending, isn't that the ultimate goal?... Even if it's just for a few years and we pay the price after. I say go for it, we have to go for a championship when the oppurtunity's there.

Around baseball, people keep wondering: Which teams might be interested in Manny Ramirez as a free agent?

Here's one: The Toronto Blue Jays.

Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi downplays his team's chances of landing Ramirez, but says the Jays' primary offseason goals are to re-sign right-hander A.J. Burnett and add a hitter.

Burnett, who is expected to opt out of his contract and become a free agent, could command between $15 million and $18 million per season.

If the Jays lost him, they almost certainly would not commit the same kind of money to another starting pitcher, giving them the payroll flexibility to possibly make a run at Ramirez.

"Manny is not priority No. 1. I can't even say he's priority No. 2," Ricciardi said Wednesday. "It would really be a long shot for us to bring him to Toronto. He's on our radar, but maybe not on our radar like some people will report.

"I don't see us getting involved in unbelievable, astronomical numbers. We would not go down that path."

Ramirez, 36, is expected to seek at least $25 million per season, and his agent, Scott Boras, has recently indicated that he might pursue a six-year deal.

The Jays, like many clubs, would be concerned that Boras might prolong the negotiations, possibly preventing them from filling other needs.

However, the addition of Ramirez would transform the Blue Jays' offense and energize the team's fan base.

good to know that.. Its not sensible to throw 25+ mill per year at Manny especially for a market like the jays.. if he settles for a 2 yr 40 mill deal, i say go for it..

id leave Burnett on the table if he wants more money he can go else where. Try to move Overbay and maybe BJ Ryan to free up some cash. Use what we would have of Burnett and get a big Bat.

Toronto Blue Jays fans got a dose of winter reality on Thursday when J.P. Ricciardi put to rest the idea of signing free-agent slugger Manny Ramirez.

"He's a great hitter, so it's tempting. But being tempted and being realistic are two separate things," Ricciardi told ESPN columnist Jayson Stark. "We won't be involved with Manny. That keeps coming up, but it's not true. I think one reason is that Manny has always liked it in Toronto. He's hit more home runs here than anybody. And he likes the city, because he can fly under the radar here."
