Yea, its too bad he died just last year. As a music student in a conservatory, He is probably the 2nd greatest jazz pianist of all time technique wise.

Coworker friend comes into work looking all drained. Asked what happened, and he replies, "someone stole our TV last night." Not exactly the response I was expecting. Long story short, someone broke into his house. Trashed the place.

Here's how the LAPD came flying to their help.

- Hysterical coworker friend's wife comes home to trashed house, calls 911
- Immediately gets put on hold
- Waits.
- Wait some more.
- Operator answers, gets transferred to another operator. Talks a bit, then transferred again.
- Waits.
- Friend's wife finally gets a warm body on the other end of line to send police.
- 2 hours go by.
- Wife is pissed, calls again.
- Not put on hold, but operator says cops are on their way.
- Another 2 hours go by. No cops.
- Another angry call goes out to 911.
- Operator doesn't sound like she gives a **** but says cops are still on their way.
- 1 hour later, LA's finest finally show up. Grand total waiting time? 5 f**king hours. FIVE HOURS.
- Police's response? "Leave your stuff the way it is. A detective will eventually contact you."
- Coworker and his wife have to leave their house in shambles, waiting for this magical detective who will eventually show up one of these days.

It's reassuring knowing how responsive police/911 services are in this godforsaken city. From the bottom of my heart, f**k you LAPD.

Who would you put ahead of him technique wise? Just curious. I think there are many. Chic Corea, Michel Camilo and many others are total freaks when it comes to technique, but none of those acrobatic pianists can even come close to competing with Oscar's soul, substance and melodic sense, nor his built-in jazz...

Then you'll enjoy this little joke:

The LAPD, the FBI and the CIA

The LAPD, The FBI, and the CIA are all trying to prove that they are the best at apprehending criminals. The President gets tired of the bickering and decides to give them a test. He releases a rabbit into a forest and each of them has to catch it.

The CIA goes in. They place animal informants throughout the forest. They question all plant and mineral witnesses. After three months of extensive investigations they conclude that rabbits do not exist.

The FBI goes in. After two weeks with no leads they burn the forest, killing everything in it, including the rabbit, and they make no apologies. The rabbit had it coming.

The LAPD goes in. They come out two hours later with a badly beaten bear, who is yelling: "Okay! Okay! I'm a rabbit! I'm a rabbit!

Pretty much sums it up.

EDIT: ^ That's really effed up, btw.

wow thats crazy, don't hear about a lot of that in a small town where i am

actually there were some Jazz musicians who came and played at college today, part of a Jazz Fesitival bunch of high schoolers were there and from what i could gather were going to split into groups and play with them

never really got into jazz much, but these guys were good, and its good music

Sorry to hear about that sofa king.

I know a few horror stories about the LAPD as well, in fact, a couple involve me, but if something bad happens, I'm still calling 9-1-1.

L.A. is a huge city. Hasn't the police force always been understaffed? NYC has something like double the police officers for its population.

NYC response time is pretty fast.

L.A. needs to prioritize public safety in its budget. Not sure how they're going to get the money though, they're having some serious financial problems.

Hehe, funny joke, EE.

Yet I've thought about joining all three at some point in my life, and I know people who work for the CIA and the LAPD, none in FBI, however.

I had a recurring fantasy of kicking down doors with an FBI jacket on, yelling, "FBI, Bitch!"

Yeah my uncle is a member of a SWAT unit as a sniper and always has crazy stories to tell.

Speaking of under-staffed departments, I live in Phoenix and Phoenix PD over here used to take forever to get to the spot in time. My friend had to hide for 4 hours just waiting in her apartment for the police to come after she had already scared two thugs away.

I don't know if any of you have heard of the Baseline Killer but that was an example of where people would call while their loved one's were fighting to keep that guy out and the police just couldn't get there in time. Now that guy is in prison and the staffing for police departments have increased significantly.

Damn man.. life without basketball is horrible. I haven't played for like 3 weeks since bruising my knees and the univ intra murals made it tougher to get hold of a court to play on. I'm going nuts staying without the game and I can only imagine how much worse the pros feel when they're injured for a season.

Bought a new laptop last week. Got the new MacBook. Loving it. Apple and I go way back. Here is the list of Macs I've had in my day, 1989 to present.

Mac Plus
SE30
SE
LC
8500 x 2
9600 x 2
G3 x 2
G4 x 4
PowerBook G4
G5 x 2
iPhone
MacBook

I love Apple. I've also had some eight or ten different PCs through the years. It's pretty sick how many computers one goes through as time goes by.
