Re: Marion
As far as the Marion for Wally, Varejauao trade goes, I really don't see why either team would want to do it.
Yes they are both expiring contracts, but Marion's is expiring anyways. Marion isn't putting up his usual 18 and 10, but he's one of Miami's better defenders and rebounders. From what I know, Wally isn't the same player who could score 15+ consistently and hit outside shots anymore for 30 minutes a game. If he can do that and play some defense, and Cleveland takes one of Miami's smaller but longer contracts like Banks, then I say do it.
As far as the Cavs go, I know nothing about the Cavs except I think you recently went on a huge win streak. You seem to have most parts figured out, which shouldn't be too much of an issue for a team with LeBron James, who can play pretty much any position, including PG and can do it all. So I don't know why you would do this trade, unless you need help rebounding, with perimeter defense and want another guy to run fast breaks with LeBron. In that case, then Marion makes sense. I could also see his numbers going right back up to 18 and 10. Also, he could help you with Garnett in the playoffs. One more thing, Miami plays half-court style mostly, leaving not much room for Marion to do what he does best, hence the decrease in his scoring numbers. If that sounds like Cleveland's style, then maybe this isn't the trade for you.

I truly wish people would stop making up deals with Snow in them. Snow is not going to be traded. He's going off the books as a medical retirement. They are not going to trade him and take on salary. It's not going to happen.

All the injury exception does is allow us to not pay the luxury tax and guess what we are doing that anyways.
The medical exception has not happened, and who knows how long those things take.
If it can help our team then I say we do it. Our owner ha repeatedly said he will pay the luxury tax to help this team win.
I understand not wanting to ruin chemistry, but if we don't win it all James is gonna peace and then who cares if we saved big on that snow injury, come on

The medical exception will happen after the 41st game is played this season. It's a done deal, Snow is not going to be traded. He wouldn't be able to pass a physical anyways. His 7 million coming off the books in essence saves Gilbert 12-14 million. He's not going to be traded.

Re: Marion
correction, medical exception takes 80% of his pay off our hands... we have to wait a year until we diagnosed him with the injury.
Meanwhile he is getting paid to wear a suit n tie for NBA TV. so what are we really saving on? by the time we get the injury exception or whatever we will have already paid him so much that we will be saving 80% on a much smaller amount than the money his contract is worth in his last year here.

Unless I am wrong you are allowed to trade injured players as long as the injury is disclosed to the other team, i.e. jamal mashburn a few years back

Re: Marion
I was a huge Matrix fan when he was running with Nash and the boys in PHX but he is NOT a halfcourt player. I remember the Spurs used to shut down Marion every time in the playoffs and Boston would probably do the same thing. The Cavs need to hang on to their frontcourt length and if anything should be looking to add another big if they want to get by the Celtics in the playoffs. Right now the Cavaliers can throw Big Ben, Z and Varejao out there to defend KG which is a reason I believe the Cavs have a shot to win the EC. Not to mention Andy is the only young big who can be counted on right now.

Re: Marion
The only real problem I would have with this deal is that it doesn't help the Cavs next year. I want them to trade Wally for somebody who will be around to give LeBron a chance to win this year and next. That's not Marion unless the Cavs plan to resign him and I don't see that happening. I can't see wasting Wally's contract on a one-shot deal.
I brings the ruckus to the ladies!

No way the cavs do this. Andy is our only big who's young. The only way Andy goes if Haslem comes back somehow and a number one for snow

Re: Marion
It really doesn't make sense for me even if they included Haslem (which they won't). That just gives us more PF's while thinning our depth at C.

Re: Marion
Varejao is a solid big entering his prime while Marion is a declining athletic pretend PF.
When I saw that the certain ethnic guy from Yahoo wrote it... I knew it was a agent generated rumor because it really doesn't make sense for the CAVs as Brian Windhorst wrote in his blog:

Right now the Cavs are not sure what they want to do but they don't want to mess with this team's chemistry. They are considering their options, but history tells us that teams don't really get serious about trading for expiring contracts (which is what the Cavs have to use) until near the trading deadline. That is a long way away and options will be discussed for those months.
What the Cavs need is another big man and Marion isn't a big man and Varejao is. So if they made such a deal they'd be in worse shape. Which is why I said before, it doesn't make much sense.
Also, if the Cavs are going to use Wally Szczerbiak's contract they are going to go for a home run. This next trade very well may be the most important in Cavs history. So it has to be just right. I will write about this a lot more in the coming weeks, just know that right now this rumor isn't true.

Which Players Have Risen Or Fallen The Most Since Last Season?
Biggest Drops
- Shawn Marion: -4.3 (13.5, 17.8)
Marion forced his way out of Phoenix and hasn't demonstrated much besides the fact that he is aging wing that was largely a product of a high octane system that suited him well. He is scoring with nearly the kind of efficiency as he did with the Suns, and he also isn't performing as well on the glass or as a defender.

Re: Marion
I am glad it's false. That trade didn't make any sense for the Cavs at all. There is no way we are going to trade Varejao for a fake PF who doesn't mesh well with LeBron. Yet, we should be saving our expiring for something else.

I was saying Marion was vastly overrated before he left Phoenix and lots of Cavs fans wanted him. I'm glad Cleveland didn't go after him

Re: Marion
I think the Heat fans want a nice package back for Matrix the same way we want a nice player(s) back for Wally. The difference is the Heat apparently don't want to take back any contracts that run past 2010 which severely limits their trade options.
Reading between the lines it sounds like Marion is not an option unless the Cavs trade away Fegan's other client, Varejao. Apparently the Cavs have no intention of trading Andy at this time.

Windhorst last night on KNR also said one other great comment. With only two years to go in LBJ's contract, Ferry is not going to make a trade unless its a no brainer like the Mo Williams trade. He still thinks Wally's money will be used to bring someone here, but it has to be a steal.

Re: Marion
It's kind of amusing that some writers/posters believe Marion would be a better fit with the CAVs than he is with Heat who both have slower tempo teams. If it was a no brainer deal like the Mo Williams one where the CAVs don't hurt their core... I could see them taking a chance on Marion (for expiring) rental which is why I see him staying with Miami. Kind of like Bibby's value with the Kings -- his current value isn't based on his past glories in a high octane system tailored to inflate offensive numbers.
• Shawn Marion's turn as a star. We wonder if Marion is as thrilled about his move to the slower-paced Heat as he was last season. His scoring (12.3) and rebounding (9.1) haven't been this low since his rookie season in 1999-2000, and he's shooting 22.2 percent from three-point range. We suggest Marion bank a lot of the $17.8 million he'll make this season because he won't be getting close to that next summer when he hits free agency.
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/w ... dom.notes/
If you thought the HEAT would be a .500 team this year, you should be throwing some bets down in Vegas. A rookie head coach, no semblance of a big man or point guard, and a Shawn Marion that has severely fallen off, yet the HEAT are still right there in the playoff hunt.
