Murphy
Despite all the carping about his defensive liabilities and his contract, I'm grateful for Troy Murphy. Win or lose, the guy has been a rock for us. He's a great boardman, and a very difficult cover for any opposing PF because of his range. I don't think he gets enough love from a lot of Pacer fans.
Also in spite of the roller-coaster ride and frustrations of this season, I still like this team. I think we're a decent player, maybe two, away from being solid contenders. We have Danny for our go-to guy and he's signed long term, Daniels has been excellent, Jack has been a revelation to me, Ford has been good when healthy, and I think Hibbert and Rush both have solid futures for the Pacers. And Murphy, as I said above, has been outstanding.
The fact that the Pacers have beaten the Celtics, the Lakers, the Magic, and the Cavs says to me the potential to be a good team is definitely there. I know people are saying this upcoming draft is not a strong one, but getting even a solid if not spectacular post player via a lottery pick certainly wouldn't hurt.
Key to our problems this year, IMO, has been the loss of Dunleavy. I believe if MDJ had been healthy, this team would have made the playoffs and making the second round would not have been at all unthinkable.
God willin' and the creek don't rise, I continue to think there are brighter days ahead for the Pacers in the near future. (Let's just hope it's in Indianapolis!)

If the Pacers leave Indianapolis, it better be because there's nuclear war going on and Indianapolis can't sustain human life. Although mutant players might not be a bad thing.
Anyways, yeah. I've always liked Murphy since his Notre Dame days, and the only thing wrong with him is his contract, but that's not his fault if the Warriors mistook him for Jesus 2.0.

Exactly! That's why I'll never understand why people talk bad about Murphy and Dunleavy about their contracts. It's not like they held the Pacers hostage for the contracts that they have.

I could say the same about you, and I have just as much reason.

It's nice not being a mod anymore.
I can use the ignore function again.
(Though it always seems to result in a sharp uptick in people quoting the guy I put on ignore.

I have no idea what you're talking about, and clearly, neither do you.

I guess you you wouldnt be refereeing to his highschool team that went 20-6 and to the state quarter finals or his career at ND.... might want to do your homework before you go around making statements like that.
All the guy does is hit 3's and grab rebounds, I dont think we would have more then 20 wins if he wasnt on this team.

Re: Murphy
I like Murphy. He does a lot of things well, and he's a solid individual too.
However, he's wildly overpaid, and not a great PF for his salary. If I could move him for a shorter deal, or a player that is better than him, I'd do it in a second. I just don't see where that fit is.

Re: Murphy
No, but that is not the point... However, their contracts are currently holding the Pacers' salary cap hostage... Don't misunderstand me... They are solid players, and I would only dare think about our record if neither were here, but they are still vastly overpaid, and the length of their contracts are deal breakers for every other team...Dunthreevy wrote:

This...though I'd use the word "relatively" instead of "vastly".

Re: Murphy
Murph is not a star by any means. But he's not a born loser as the troll stated. Murph gives us a very solid double double nearly every night, is he gonna get 20 points 12 rbs a night prob not every night. I've always said that he makes about 25% too much money but that's the Warriors fault not Murph's, I'll take Murph he's a good locker room guy unlike Zach Randolph/Stephen Jackson/you name it.

Re: Murphy
I think Murphy can be a solid starter in this league, but when he's your team's best front court player, you're in trouble.

Re: Murphy
I think we are seeing Murphys ceiling, 14points and 12rebounds on any team is a feat. He doesnt have any baggage, has a great image and most importantly he isnt a selfish player that is going to take away from developing our young bigs.
He knows his game and stays within it, he is overpaid but not by the amount most think.

Re: Murphy
The only problem with his rebound average is that he fights teammates to get to that. Not these recent games, but when Granger and Dunleavy were around, two guys would catch it at once, and Troy would rip it out.

Re: Murphy
I just don't like the fit currently. It was an idea worth trying when JO was still around. He provides a great range compliment to a post scorer. The main problem is we don't have one, and won't acquire one that's ready enough to allow Murphy to use his strengths for team play.
I like his effectiveness on the Defensive boards, regardless if he fights for them, at least he is wanting the rock.
But in all honesty the price tag and fit do not enamor me much.
