I have no idea who will opt out but if the salary cap is in free fall and we are looking at a dozen FAs ahead of Boozer and Okur fighting for cap space theres a real chance they would have to take a major pay cut. Its realy a gamble to either try to be a major 09 FA or a plan B FA in 2010.
From the Pistons side a contract for either starting around 10-12 mil is the target.

Re: If boozer doesn't opt out
The best I see Detroit offering is 5 years, $70-75 million, and even then they'd probably be reluctant. Now, considering what Bosh and Amar'e could be pushing for in 2010 (6 years, $110-120 million) it's a pretty good deal for a 20-10 player. I don't think it's worth waiting out for Bosh unless he shows a strong desire to play for Detroit, and he really hasn't said anything yet. I think he'd rather head to Texas and play in his home state than stay in the great white north. Whereas Boozer seems more concerned with money over climate (even his son's sickle cell benefits from non-tropic environments). The question becomes, does Utah match that offer? Once again, it's relatively affordable. They could just let Millsap walk and go with the All-Star. They could also turn around and work a sign and trade with Detroit, possibly landing one of their bigs and maybe the Minnesota 2nd they have (which will be 31-33). Which makes sense if they want a cheap big and a decent pick on an unguaranteed contract. It would be better than simply letting Boozer walk, because Memphis and OKC are unlikely to sign Boozer nor give up any talent to get him.

Re: If boozer doesn't opt out
Umm.... Let's try a positive approach here.
Best case scenario = Nobody opts out.
Next year we pay the luxury tax. ( I know, nobody believes we will)
If this happens, it's entirely possible that we pay the luxury tax ONE year, and then keep everybody for the next year. Certain contracts will end by then.
Maybe, maybe not.
I'm not going to go into specifics right now, but this scenario is quite possible.
Before you call shananigans, please remember that almost nobody on this board believed CJ would get a decent offer, and after he did, no one believed we would match.
I have high hopes for our future in the next three years.

Boozer is pissing me off again with his butterfingers. I'm starting to switch a little of my preference meeter from Boozer to Millsap. Not a lot yet though. KOC has some tough calls to make this summer.

You're a tool. I wasn't the one claiming he was faking injuries. I back C-Booze 100%.

I hope Boozer opts out, signs with Detroit or Houston, and breaks his leg in half. That is all.

Re: If boozer doesn't opt out
Until the last week, I never even considered the possibility of Boozer staying around for the final year of his contract. All the sudden, I'm thinking that it is very likely that he will.
His play is just not nearly as sharp as it was prior to his injury and I don't believe any team would opt to give him a signicant contract based on what I'm seeing. This is unfortunate because I think the Jazz would like to see him opt out in order to solve some money problems.
Right now, I think Okur is the one who could land a five-year $55 million deal with another team after this season.

Boozer has to opt out, or the Jazz will be up **** creek without a paddle. There has to be some idiot GM out there willing to overpay him looking at his numbers. The Jazz can live and even thrive without Boozer if everybody is healthy.
