Backup battle brewing for Chicago Bears quarterbacks

What an epic battle

The loudest roar from Bears mini-camp erupted after Caleb Hanie sprinted up the middle on a quarterback keeper and then attempted to juke a defender.

"It probably looked terrible, and even worse on film," Hanie said with a laugh. "I don't know if the guys were hollering because it looked bad or because it was good.

Probably the latter, based on what coach Lovie Smith had to say about Hanie as mini-camp concluded.

"Every time we've given Caleb an opportunity, he has performed well," Smith said. "The early results from what he has done have been pretty good. He has a good arm. He's mobile. [Quarterbacks coach] Pep Hamilton will do a great job with him and we should see a lot of improvement from it."

I'm not sure why there's not a battle brewing for the starting QB position.

Apparently competition is a bad thing.
Turn down for what?

I have been Hanie's biggest fan since last preseason.

He showed great command, mobility, poise and moxie to do anything to win.....at least we can give him a shot. That is all I want.

You are right Chewie , are the Bears afraid of bruising the ego of our pro-bowler Orton by opening the competition for the starting QB spot.

Orton may demand a trade ala Cutler.

They are on the same level, so you never know.
A plea for post scoring is a plausible Bulls plan, but plainly isn't a priority. In response to a post player's dismay about his lack of points in the paint, Paxson said.... "I'm not nearly as concerned about the offensive stuff as he is."

You're still not sure about that?
