Some important stuff happened but very little in terms of standings shifting:
East-
-Philly finally clinches a playoff berth after seemingly not wanting to lately.
-Carolina is tied with Philly with 97 points after winning something like their 27th game in a row.
-Pittsburgh clinches their playoff berth after beating those scrappy sons of guns the Tampa Bay Lightning. Keep on trying, Bolts. You win these last few games and you won't fade completely into anonymity.
-Big game in the Big Apple goes the Rangers way. Rangers now one point behind the Northerners for 7th. Philly beat Florida to clinch, now Florida is close to being on life support, which at this point in the season shouldn't surprise any of us. Seriously, how many seasons in a row has this been in which the Panthers finish 9th or 10th in the East? I think it's 3.
-Are the Sabres out? There's tiebreaking rules and such but I don't feel like figuring it out.
West-
-Wave goodbye, Edmonton! You lost to LA at home and are out of the race. Can't wait for the massive front office upheaval that will follow.
-Nashville loses their final home game of the year to Chicago and now have to win on the road to get into the playoffs AND hope the Blues stumble. Recipe for success? I think so.
-Speaking of those Blues, they win in a tough building to play, the vaunted Jobing.com Arena, and now sit 8th in the West. The Blues are also tied in points with the Ducks, who frankly I keep forgetting about.
-Big game in Vancouver goes the Canucks direction and now the Flames and Canucks are re-tied for the Northwest Division lead. You can just feel the sexual tension between these two, can't you?
-Someone woke up the Minnesota Wild and they continue to cling to hope that they'll return to the glory days of being swept in the Western Conference Finals.
-Avs and Sharks played a game, too. Mazel tov.
Only two games tomorrow, one important for the West (Jackets-Hawks), the other not important for anything (Sabres-Leafs), unless the Sabres are still in the playoff hunt, in which case it will become unimportant Thursday.
