Post#1 » by HMFFL » Thu Apr 16, 2009 6:50 am

This time of the year can be very intense, so be respectful of your fellow posters, and let's have a good series. If you plan on making a game thread for the rest of the series have them out as soon as possible after game one. GO HAWKS

Too bad their dancers won't be making the trip North. That's one area in which the Heat rough us up and it isn't even close.

I look forward to seeing this ATL squad try to turn it up a notch again like last postseason. Its obvious that LA is my squad, but the hawks are my preferred team in the east and I want to see you guys do well. I think on talent alone the hawks outshine the heat, BUT as the thread starter has shown you will be dealing with the refs and the possibility of a favored Lebron VS Wade matchup. This is the ONLY way I can see them beating you.

Hopefully things play out for you and the squad is able to play throgh this to the point that even the refs cant cheat this one out for wade.

If you guys are wondering why Heat fans feel disrespected, this post pretty much sums it up. It seems the majority of RealGM has decided there are only 2 potential winners in this series, and neither of them happen to be the Miami Heat. Its either the Hawks, or Stern/refs.

Oh my. I love that Atlanta Air Force song. Reminds me of days as a youngun cheering on Nique and Tree at the sh*tty old Omni. Just got my game one tickets. Getting fired up...

Funny thing about one of the pictures: a few years back, we were probably really only 21 Hawks fans.

Atlanta. So that means we base predictions off of the better team, and don't factor anything else into it? Why even play the games then? Shoot, lets just simulate the entire playoffs. Guess the Cavs are NBA champions.

Its not even that people aren't picking Miami, some are. Its the blatant disrespect shown by assuming that if Miami does win, the refs will be the cause of it. If Chicago beats Boston, Philly beats Orlando or Detroit beats the Cavs, it will be an amazing upset... but if Miami beats Atlanta, its cuz teh refz wanted Wade vs Bron. Just a weak excuse, thats all. I mean you'd think the Hawks are one of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference with all the excuse making going on.

The Miami-Dallas series obviously left an impression on people.

As far as the people on this board we know this team. We know it's faults and it's strengths as well.
We know that the Hawks struggle with quick, high scoring pgs like Harris and Parker. Those guys own us. We also struggles with big guys who can score in the post and take advantage of our small front line. Miami doesn't have anyone like that.

We were far more concerned about facing Philly because of the matchups. Philly is a strong rebounding team, Miller kills Bibby and they defend JJ well. They beat us easily the last two times we played them.

Miami's lucky to have a player that can get calls from the refs. I've said numerous times Joe needs to find ways to work on this and just drive to the rim. I'm concerned about Josh Smith's reaction if he doesn't get calls during this series and him getting tossed from the game. Josh is emotional, but he goes about it the wrong way, so if Wade gets some easy calls it could very well set Josh off.

Hawk fans have to deal with score keeper issues from other fans and "Where players get hurt" so the fact that Wade getting calls is being mention should not bother any Miami fans.

Timmy * in Tony Parkers voice * I dont mean to discredit the heat ( not that I care with this being on the hawks board and all ) but when things are blantanly obvious and seen with my own eyes it tends to sway my opinion. Not to mention I SEE the hawks being a better team than the heat in this series.

Also dont tell me that with the refs being mentioned so much that its not a possibility that things would happen, and that the league wouldn't prefer a Lebron VS Wade matchup. Unless the hawks come out and convincingly show themselves to be the better team funny sh## will occur if allowed.

REAL TALK pimp, no hurt feeling intended. Just be lucky your on the striped side if and when it happens.

Thats still a joke, because what if we aren't on the striped side? In fact what if Miami gets screwed by the refs? Then the double standard really comes into play, because now we aren't allowed to complain since "Wade gets every call".

The truth of the matter is, while Wade gets more calls than a lot of players, the majority of that is because he handles the ball more than other players. As a team, we drew less fouls than the opposition this season by about 1 a game.

See, lets say 20 possessions for each team go by. Wade handles the ball and takes a shot on 12 of those 20 possessions for Miami. Joe Johnson, Atlanta's best player, does the same on maybe 6 of those possessions for Atlanta. Wade gets 3 touch foul calls during those 20 possessions. Joe only gets 1... but Josh Smith and Al Horford each get 1 a piece as well. Since the calls are spread out, there is no clear target... but with Wade, there is, on TOP of the already assumed ref bias.

Anyways, as a Miami fan, believe me when I say I've gotten used to the ref excuses... but its just extra lame that its being used as a crutch before the series even begins. Meaning you know the second a questionable call occurs, everyone's going to start complaining about it. You say Atlanta fans are used to the scorekeeper jokes and injuries etc, but I haven't seen Heat fans harping on about that in our game thread.

But don't get me wrong... I may object to the ref excuses, but I respect the hell out of the Hawks. They are talented at pretty much all 5 positions, and if Boston really is without KG, you guys have a real shot if you can get past Cleveland. All I'm asking is don't immediately play the ref card the first time Miami punches you guys in the mouths... the Heat may not win, but its going to be a tough series for both teams. And I promise Heat fans aren't going to moan about scorekeepers or whatever either.

Heat fans are relentless on the Hawks board. They just keep coming LOL. I hope we have Jon Barry. I dont want that Van Gundy guy.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

Lets go HAWKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got seats in section 303, damn nosebleed, we didn't wanna go all out like last season and get seats in the 200's

I hope I meet some more hoopers this year, seems every game I go to, almost, I run into somebody

Hawks/Knicks in March of 07 - Met Dominique Wilkins, also met players from several SEC teams - Florida, Kentucky, GA, etc. because the tournament was that weekend
Hawks/Celtics Playoffs last year - Met Jarrett Jack (Glenn Rob was close by but I couldn't get to him) and also met rap star Pastor Troy
Hawks/Bucks this season I met Dale Davis
Hawks/Spurs this season my brother met Matt Stafford

Always running into athletes and rappers at Philips!

Miami in 5 or 6. I don't see anyone stopping Wade and Beasley.

Return to Atlanta Hawks
