Solomon on the game 6 win:
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/spo ... 02515.html

Feigen has updated his Blog:
http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2009/05/yao_ ... _triu.html

"That why I enjoy playing with him," Artest said. "He is always the first one in the gym, the last one to leave. He's a real leader. Everybody knows that."

No one is more committed. And it is in that way that Yao leads.

No one could give more of himself to a team. This team became the same way.

The version of the Rockets that finally got out of the first round did it because it would not give in. It would not surrender to the injury to Tracy McGrady, the mid-season struggles or the changes forced up them. And after it struggled badly in Game 5, it would not give in to doubt, responding the way it had throughout the season.
==========================================
This season has many challenges for the rockets right from the start and the rockets overcame most of them and have toughen up the rockets. You can sense the increase in toughness as they respond after poor games.

I am very happy that we have made it out of the first round. But I'll save the champagne for later. I am proud of the team, especially the younger players, who are stepping up and playing bigtime.

Bring on the Lakers!

After years of first round disappointments, this win is definitely one to savour. I would love for the Rockets to go even further even if it would be very difficult. Regardless let's celebrate having a second round matchup to look forward to.

Iggyemu wrote:We needed our best tonight and we got it. We needed Artest to play well tonight and he did. I am still just in awe really b/c this hasn't sunk in yet. It doesn't matter what happens in the next round. This was our Finals...our championship. The pressure is completely off now and maybe we can give the Lakers a run...and if we can't its no big deal b/c we have the nucleus to get to the second round..we just need to build on it.

This was all about this round for us. This series went ideally for us. We won game 1...and then took care of home court. We came close to giving it away in games 3 and especially 4 but we found a way like we always have. This Rocket team is the most resilient, tough minded team of this McGrady/Yao era. Its unfortunate a healthy McGrady couldn't be here to contribute. But these guys took what they had and made it work. From Yao's dominating game 1....to Scola's consistent effort that carried us through the games like game 3...to Artest's big time performance in our biggest game this season.

Too many times we have a chance to win a series in this era and too many times we lack the big game performance we got tonight from Artest. While it might be a long shot...this performance alone warrants him being back here in Houston. He was brought here to deliver us to the second round and he did.

Our bench..what can I say. We went from one of those teams that were mostly reliant on their starting 5...to having our bench propel a 31 point quarter in a big playoff game. Wafer, Lowry, Landry and even Hayes have given the versatility and talent this team has sorely lacked in its second unit. Adelman did a great job of developing them..especially Wafer. Adelman just let him be Wafer...told him to worry about nothing else but scoring. And its taken him from D-Leaguer to a guy that will earn a lot of money this off season.

I mean I am struggling to put this all together because this hasn't sunk in yet and probably won't until the weekend. All I know is that for 5 years I have felt your pain. I came over here as a former Magic fan so add 8 years on to that and thats 13 years. Lucky #13. I didn't think we could do it...I thought too much of the Blazers....I thought they could get more out of the rest of their players. I knew what we had...I just didn't expect them to only be Roy and Aldridge. We did a great job defensively on the rest of their guys especially Outlaw and Rudy.

I am happy....I dunno what else to say. We had a 6 point lead with 6 mins to go against the Jazz in game 7 two years ago. I thought we would finish it...I thought that was our moment. We didn't..it hurt like hell...I was depressed for days....Tonight....we left no doubt and for a team that if you expect the worst you usually get it....I think the way we did it tonight was a feat all on its own. Yea...we are in the second round.

Stop beating me to the punch Iggy; you're taking the words directly out of my mouth.

I'm so proud of this team, and I am SO happy for Yao. As hard as Yao works, as much criticism as Yao receives (deserved or not), as passionate as he is about the game of basketball...he deserves this. I was very skeptical as to whether Yao could be our go-to guy once Mac went out, but damn he proved me wrong. The Blazers keyed their defense in on Yao, double/triple teaming and fronting him like a superstar, and he just played within the system this series. He didn't force the issue and took what Portland gave him. A lot of people were giving him flak for his fluctuating numbers during the series, but who cares? This Houston Rockets squad plays as a team, and boy has it been great to watch.

Let's give LA our best shot. Houston, stand UP.

Also, does anyone know where I can view the game with Bill Worrel doing the commentary (no torrents please)? It's only right to watch us accomplish this feat with Bill Worrel doing the commentary. And does anyone know where I can view footage of the post-game interviews with Yao, Artest, Deke, etc? I was watching the game on TNT, but it was a crowded venue and I couldn't hear anything.

Yeah, I second the post game interviews.. I would love to see / hear them. There is a short clip on nba.com of Yao and Artest and of the coaches and Roy, but a full one would be nice..

KR I think you'll be hard pressed to find anything other than a torrent. DavkaBT should have the torrent up some time today. If its the full game that means is Worrell doing it. TNT didn't cover it until the second half.

I was at the game last night, 5 rows up from the floor, behind the basket near Portland's bench($135.00 seats). Just awesome seats, an awesome game, and an unreal experience. The buzz in the arena before the game was incredible. I was at the Jazz game 7 loss, lossing those two series and the dallas series made being there last night that much sweeter.

GAME NOTES: The beat LA chant was awesomely hipe. I saw a few beat LA shirts before the game(on some of the guys running The Rockets shop), apparently they were already printed up and then they started launching them at the end of the game. That scared the crap out of me...didn't want a jinx. Also...there was a Portland sucks chant for about 15 seconds or so.....before the beat LA chant (I saw some people wondering what we were saying). When Ron Ron grabbed the mic, he complimented Portland and asked us to stay classy and give Portland a round of applause, he also asked us to sing his son happy birthday. I was two people behind Yao Ming's Dad and Wife in the Rocket's shop. They were holding up the line for whatever reason....buying like 10 Yao Ming Jersys..pretty cool. That flop by Scola in the game...man it always looks like a flop on TV, but up close...he does take a lot of body...he just sells it. If he were to go rigid and take that force...he would easily be blasted out of position and possibly draw the offensive without the sell. seeing the player facial expressions and grimaces is just unreal up close. The court seems so much smaller and spacing is little to none from the angle I had. On TV...we see everything...but down low it's amazing that you could even pass with all those bodies and long arms and speed...I just don't know how Aaron sees anything being as short as he is.

BIG NOTE: To the **** two rows behind me who threw his beat stick(the blow up ones they pass out to make noise) at me asking me to sit down (4 minutes left in the game when most of the stadium was on there feet)....that dude...he can go to hell. And he can also stand the f*ck up, and wear a red shirt to the game. What a Deuche. I hope the LA matchup doesn't bring out more yuppies like that. The Rockets need the fan support.

P.S. I'd love to ad a beat LA banner to my signature...if anyone can tell me how that would be awesome.

Congrats to all of the Rockets fans. Your team absolutely destroyed the young Blazers in game 6. Have a great series against the L*kers.
