I was a defender of Richmond at the beginning of the year but, he is absolutely blowing my expectations out of the water. I think I said something along the lines of "if he eats up innings and wins 40% of his games, he's doing his job" and I went on to say that an 8W-12L record with a 4.75 ERA would be an adequate showing from him... Looking at the quality of his stuff, I actually expect way more out of him, which may not be fair but, he's delivered so far, so I guess it doesn't matter.

It was great to see Rios hit that bomb. He actually had 3 very good at-bats today (and one lesser one). The double was him turning on an inside fastball. Then he had a very weak ground out to second where he completely pulled off of the ball. The homerun was another fastball high in the strike zone. And in his last at bat, he hit a pretty nasty pitch (I think it was a slider) that was almost in the dirt and got a good enough rip at it to line it to the LF.

Our rotation is going to be scary good once everyone gets healthy. Halladay/McGowan/Marcum/Romero/Richmond. Plus we have Litsch, Cecil and Janssen. That's a lot of options. We can probably make some trades and shore up the offense.

What I like is that we have by far the best point differential in the AL... it's not just a string of lucky bounces and fluke wins, they've actually been playing like the tops team. 1st in the AL on May 3rd... niccce

McGowan and Marcum will likely not be back this season.

that is more or less due to the fact that the Jays have scored the most runs in the league... I find they give up a tad too much in the runs department (7th in Runs Allowed in the AL, but an impressive 4th in ERA)

That's largely because we've played 21 innings more than the second-place team, having played two extra games and four games into the 11th.

Marcum is ahead of schedule and is already throwing again. It's likely that he will return sometime in August.

Also, we can never forget that Cito was forced to start Burress not once but TWICE!!!

But let's face it, it's a been an easy schedule so far, and Jays didn't exactly blow out the only really decent team we met (KC). If Hollinger did his statistical gloss for baseball rankings, they probably wouldn't look as good.

That said, they're doing what they need to do, with a severely depleted pitching staff. I'm psyched.

i wouldn't consider our schedule to be "cream puff", considering we took 3/4 against the Tigers and Twins (at minnesota too). Winning a series on the road (no matter how tough the team is) isn't really easy to do.. but the jury is still out, as we haven't faced the Yanks, Red Sox, or Rays yet.

In the last couple of years, the Jays would handle the Red Sox and Yankees OK enough, but job to just about everyone else outside of the AL East.

So this is a nice change of pace so far. Hopefully it's not a REVERSE situation where we beat everyone else except the AL East.
