K-Mart fined for foul on Dirk

Post#1 » by MHZ » Mon May 4, 2009 11:51 pm

Not all that shocking. I will say it's a credit to Dirk that he isn't whining about calls, or fouls being too hard, or anything like that. He seems like a legitimate dude.

Kenyon Martin was fined $25,000 by the NBA for throwing Dirk Nowitzki to the floor in Game 1 of the Mavericks/Nuggets second round series.

Martin was also assessed a flagrant foul 1 for the contact.

Nowitzki said after the game he didn't have a problem with the foul, calling it "just a hard playoff foul."

That comes as no surprise really. I'm surprised they didn't punish him more during the game

Just shows the league is total BS as usual.

Rondo can try to rip Brad Miller's face off, grab Hinrich by the arm, pull him about five feet and fling him in to the scorers table, and nothing.

When the Nuggets make it to the WCF, you know Stern will make sure the refs keep the Nuggets from being able to beat LA.

(Not that I disagree with the fine)

Im not upset about this, K-Mart pushed him even after the foul was called. That was an easy decision. Its a good thing Nowitzki isnt bitching about this...and Mark Cuban too

....and he threw an elbow right after the scorers table toss. Typical Stern / Stu clown show.

Who cares? K-Mart is loaded anyway.

As long as we send a message in Dirk's mind that going to the paint isn't a walk in the park, I say it's well worth the $25K.

I have to agree with MHZ and give Dirk some credit for not making more out of it then what needed to be made out of it.

Meh, it wasn't that hard of a foul, just flagrant. The clotheslines and collarings on a fast break are way more dangerous. Plus Dirk is off balance all the time, so I wouldn't be surprised if Martin nudged him or barely swung him and let his own momentum take care of the rest. Nowitzki also knows he's off balance most of the time, so that's why he probably doesn't say anything. He makes a living by being able to hit shots off balance that most guys would rim out on.

Technically, if Martin just plays close D on Dirk using his foot position and body position to close all the space on Dirk I wouldn't be surprised if he could achieve the same affect as a throw down. And I don't mean any Bruce Bowen tactics, just good clean tight D.

“I’m going to repeat, I think it’s wrong and Kenyon didn’t deserve a $25,000 fine,” Karl said after his team’s shootaround for Game 2 on Tuesday night.

Karl said he watched replays of the foul 10 times Monday night, coming away even more perplexed by the fine.

“I saw some hits in Chicago-Boston, some hits in Atlanta-Miami—this is not on top of the list from my observation,” he said. “It’s amazing to me.”

Did Reggie Evans ever get fined for the ball incident vs. Chris Kaman?

Dirk and K-Mart seem like buds though so he doesn't look at it with malice, stating that Martin just made sure he wasn't going to get an And-1.

It's sad that guys like Chapman are dipping way too much on the issue.

Load of ****. It wasn't a big bump and any other player not called Dirk or Vujacic would have played through that without falling over.
