Makes me laugh considering Kobe was like 7th or something on DPOY award.

Yeah, I just saw that right now. Better titles would help.

I just have a hard time believing the premiere stars of the league are the best defenders. I don't know, seems too much like a popularity contest.

Also...Pau got 1 vote? WTF? Really?

^^^ Derek "lock his ass down" Fisher also received a 1st place vote and 3 total.

I cant believe Kobe was named 1st team defender over Dwyane Wade when wade was 3rd in voting as the DPOY... Dwade got robbed big time

not to hate on Kobe but DWade had 100+ Blocks and 100+ steals this year, for a guard thats a major accomplishment.... Writers keep on hating on this guy for some reason.

Kobe probably belongs up there as far as guards are concerned. The odd ball selection here is Chris Paul. The way I see it, he took Wade's spot.

I couldn't agree more. Paul over Artest and Battier? KG plays 57 games and gets it?
Lebron and Howard are the only ones on the first team that hands down should have won it.

I was thinking Paul as well,... Definately not the best PG defender in the league regardless of the steals...Kobe, and Wade deserved it over Paul..The league had to put a Point guard on the list though which should have been Rondo.

They aren't required to vote for a PG, only a guard. That's why you see 2 SF's on the 2nd team in Artest and Battier. They typically select 2 guards, 2 forwards, and 1 center, but I believe there have been situations where 3 guards have been selected in the past.

Kobe was the only player that every coach that were eligible to vote actually voted for, so hard to argue against his selection. Not even Dwight the DPOY was on every ballot.

Fisher getting votes is messed up tho. He might be the worst defender at PG in the league.

Pau getting a vote isn't that bad. He's underrated as a defender as proven by last years playoffs where Boozer, Garnett and Duncan all had horrible shooting series against him (they were all around 40% FG%).

it's really about perception with pau. he is looked at as a finesse player, and therefore alot of his defense is underrated...

i think so many people are wowed by alot of things kobe does offensively that sometimes fans forget about his defensive game. the only problem i have with kobe is he doesn't do it every game, but when he is locked in,i can't think of three players better...

First of all, the media votes for Defensive Player of the Year. Coaches vote for All Defensive Teams.

Who do you think has better insight into the game of basketball? Who do you think is more biased? Btw, coaches can't vote for their own players.

The one absolute you can take from this is that NBA head coaches admire and respect Kobe's defense more than Wade's. The media (and the writers you mentioned) admire Wade's more than Kobe's.

It always was like that with Kobe - utmost respect from the hoopheads, not so much from the media. Regarding the media-chosen MVP, before Kobe finally won his, Larry Bird was quoted as saying he wanted to throw his MVP trophies away considering Kobe never got one.

Paul got a season's worth of credit for that steal deal.
