All valid points. But do you think Rubio is ready to play in the NBA? 18 years-old, poor shooter, weak defender, is that a championship PG? Is he even ready to play backup PG? I have my doubts.
IMO Rubio, if he lives up to the expectations, will be nice for the future. However, with this team geared towards a win-now situation, I'm not sure if Rubio is an upgrade over Brooks for next year's contention.
Well first of all I hope you realize the level of competition overseas that Rubio has been playing in is better than college ball over here (he's playing vs professional, grown men over there), so your comparison of Roy being NBA-ready out of college and then questioning if Rubio is doesn't really make sense.
Also the knock on Rubio isn't his defense. As far as I've seen and what's been reporeted he's quite good on defense, plays passing lanes and gets steals. Way better than Brooks on D (but not as good as Lowry IMO). He's thin but tall and long for a PG so I do not believe he will get abused in the post by PGs. His jumper is shaky yes, but the same was said about both CP and D.Will when drafted.
The main thing about Rubio, as I've said before, is his vision. It's actually pretty rare to get PGs with good vision nowadays, and it can turn teams around. I wouldn't say I'm completely sold on Rubio, but at the same time there isn't much on HOU's roster where I would say "no" to if they asked for that person for the #2 pick. In the end though I very very much doubt Morey even has a snowball's chance of getting the pick, but it's fun to speculate nontheless.
