So the trade would just mean that we force ourselves to pick a year later around the same range for no real reason.
Ugh, how do people not get this?
We have NO pick next year. We turn 1 first rounder into to. We draft later in a weak draft and actually get to have a first round pick next year. If we don't do it we twiddle our thumbs next year around draft time.
Then you'll log on and say, "WHY DON'T WE HAVE A PICK! ARGH! I DON'T UNDERSTAND! THIS IS A BETTER DRAFT THAN LAST YEAR AND WE HAVE NO PICK!"
We don't force ourselves to pick a year later. We get the #25 this year and our pick next year in a stronger draft. It's a free pick. There is nothing stupid about that.

i don't think you got his post....he's saying that even if we get our pick back next year, we're not going to do SO badly that the pick ends up being higher than 14. if my assumption about his meaning is correct, then i think it renders the rest of your post moot

Totally agree with this. And the Suns didn't make the playoffs this year and if they bring back eveyrbody and don't make the playoffs next year - OKC gets the pick - not lottery protected. So, all you that want to keep the 14th pick for an Earl Clark or Hansoborough or whomever, I wll gladly take Budinger at 25 along with next years pick - which might be garbage.

Hard to build easy to destroy. Suns are going to bomb themselves back into the stone age if they do this.

but the scenario included us getting OKC late 1st round pick this year. so even if we did better-than-expected next year, we'd have a similar pick in a better draft plus a first rounder (this year). if its 2-for-1 its a great deal, period.

This is the type of trade that happens minutes after the 13th pick, when the targeted player can be obtained.
