I get what you are saying, but I think we need to trade for a point guard. There are some good options in free agency at the big positions. All we would need is a 3rd stringer because Perk, KG and Rasheed would take the lionshare of the minutes.

Joe Smith, Gooden, Nesterovic, Magloire, Ely, Wilcox, S.Swift,

Honestly, we'll see if those guys want to take the minimum.

I get what you're saying about backup point guard too, it's just that I don't think Baby should be the instrument used to acquire such a player. In reality, if we were to acquire a real point guard, the odd-man out (with Daniels signing here) would be Eddie House. House and the real point guard makes us extremely small and not so good defensively in the backcourt.

Ideally, the trade would be House for a point guard who can stroke the 3. That would give us a ton more balance offensively and defensively. Let's start seeing some trade House threads guys!

The Nets really aren't that interested in moving Alston. He's a quality vet on a short contract.

I woudl do something like Scala/T. Allen/Pruitt for Najera/Dooling/SWAT.

If they pull a sign n trade for Daniels, they still have $2 million for such players.. I'd rather go the vet route than have an upset Baby... He's young and wants minutes, which is very reasonable..

Yeah, but who are they signing-and-trading? If Scal's dealt, then Baby is a must.

I guess the thing I don't think you guys are appreciating is that we can sign Baby for ANYTHING. There are no salary cap restrictions, only luxury tax concerns. Baby's shown his value, he's young, he's improving, he's exactly the type of guy you try to resign if you can...

And I'd rather overpay for Baby then attempt to get lucky with the bargain basement collection of 4/5s on the market. Smith is alright, I guess, but none of them are better than Baby and it's yet to be determined which if any would take the minimum or even the LLE (if we still have it) to sign with us. Do we really want Swift or Ely or Magloire as our 4th big. Really? Why not sign the guy who you know works well in our system, and who can play BOTH the 4 and the 5, instead of hoping to get lucky signing some stiff who can only play power forward or center but not both? It's about value and I think Baby's has the most of any of those guys, relative to what his role will be...

I also think it's the ultimate in arrogance to assume the 4th big is only going to get 10 minutes a game. In theory, you can make up some projections that lead to that conclusion, but in practice, I don't think it's going to work. We should be attempting to limit KG and Wallace's minutes next season and having a young hungry player behind them will allow us to do that and not lose games.

30 minutes a night is pretty limited and it shouldn't be difficult to upgrade over Scal's if he's part of the Daniels' sign n trade..

I'm not a big fan of 9-10 man benches. 8 is a good rotation and I'd like to see them get someone better than House... Guys like Tim Thomas, Bill Walker and Pruitt can round out the bench...

Why would the Nets pass on this? They'd be trading a backup point guard for a starting power forward. The only reason we'd do the trade is because we already have our big guys.

In no particular order:

1. Big Baby is not a starting power forward, even if you want to argue that he is (please tell me you don't), the Nets would not start him over Yi who they have for better or for worse committed to developing for the time being.

2. The Nets are bleeding money / want to conserve 2010 cap space.

3. Rafer Alston genuinely loves NJ, so the Nets are in no hurry to move him.

4. The Nets have 15 players on their roster so they're not taking back more players than they send out.

5. The Nets have the following big man on their roster: Brook Lopez, Yi Jianlian, Tony Battie, Sean Wiliams, Josh Boone. Eduardo Najera, Jarvis Hayes, and Bobby Simmons also see time at the 4 from time to time because of the offense the Nets are running.

I could go on and on, but you should be able to understand why the Nets easily pass on this trade.

Baby is a better player then Yi and can actually battle with big power forwards.

...Even if we assume that were true, which it's not. He still would not start over Yi due to the time and resources the Nets have invested in him.

If the Nets were to move some of their excess big men in a follow-up or three-way trade, AND Big Baby could be had a reasonable price (no way am I paying this guy and his weight issues* $5 million a year), I'd consider the deal, but as things stand there's just no point in the Nets acquiring Glen Davis at the expense of 2010 cap space.

*I'm not convinced that Davis would stay in playable shape without KG and Pierce breathing down his neck.

The only reason they have Yi is for the asian dollars they make overseas. Its not because he's any good, which he isn't. That's the reason Yao Ming will never be traded.

The Nets are not after Baby. It's Utah, New Orleans and Detroit as well as Boston that want him.

This is a lot of posts for one cfan's trademark ridiculous no-chance-in-hell trade proposals. Big Baby fills a position of more value fore the Celtics than backup point guard, which is effectively covered between House and Daniels. If DA can sign Lue and BBD with Swift as a project/insurance and this team is set.

I don't understand why some many posters can undervalue BBD and House. Davis is young and has improved in both of his years in the league. He can play 4 and 5, a position were the Cs are talented but old and injury prone. If one of Wallace, KG or Perk goes down, Davis could fill in better than any of the options left in the FA market. Gooden is weak defensively. Maligore is joke. Joe Smith is as old as KG and Wallace and probably would just as soon go to Cleveland. It is the in the Cs best interest to sign Davis. Anyone who disagrees either can't appraise the situation objectively or is hater with with some uniformed irrational fan bias against Davis.

House set the Celtic record for 3P% He is a veteran who knows his role, hustles and has a great attitude (remember when Cassell ate up his minutes during the 2008 playoffs but, when Doc went back to him the finals, he was ready kicked ass?). He doesn't need to reproduce Rondo's skills to effectively back him up for 10-15 minutes.

Like all Cfan trade proposals, this thread is ridiculous.
