Bobcats are trying to unload long-term contracts prior to when they sell the team (re: Chandler's expiring contract).. Okafor here is undervalued, especially that he was played in lesser minutes under Larry Brown.. One interesting fact though is that both players have had injury history, with Chandler's a little worse while Okafor playing all of last season.
Regardless, my theory is that NOH is still trying to save money long-term, and they just felt Okafor would be a better asset and trading bait than Chandler.. They took advantage of the fact that Okafor was under-appreciated, and that the team was about to be sold.
For now, the West-Okafor tandem doesn't look good to me. By pairing them, you force Byron Scott to play slow offense, which doesn't necessarily make full use of Chris Paul. It's almost similar to the Big Al and Kevin Love predicament in Minny, where two redundant players won't mesh well especially if your coach/system doesn't allow it
