doubt it, we tend to take days off against crappy teams

I don't think its happening this year. After we lost in the Finals 2 years ago everyone was on the same page about getting back, getting tougher, & winning it all. They did it. This year I like what i've heard from everyone. Saying all the right things & all being on the same page. I believe they will stay focused all year. Hopefully they pick up the attitude from the 80's Lakers. If you beat them on an off night, they circled you on the calendar & the next meeting you were smoked right out of the building!!

http://my.lakers.com/blogs/2009/10/01/a ... -traveler/

On media day, Lakers center Andrew Bynum told us (on video) about his training habits from the summer, which included a great deal of leg-strengthening work in Atlanta, and shared his goal of becoming an All Star.

Two days later, Bynum talked a bit more hoops - mentioning that he’s fully comfortable shooting out to 17 feet - but also revealed himself to be a world traveler. In fact, the 21-year-old detailed his journey through Italy, Spain, Japan and China that took place after he won his first NBA title.

we'll see.

Hes the only one comfortable with himself taking 17 foot jumpers. He needs to stay in the paint.
Thank you, Phil.

10/5/09 updates:

S. Brown gave the practice MVP award to Kobe. Apparently someone talked trash to KB, prompting him to "Go off."

In LA's scrimmage on Saturday night, Gasol-Odom-Artest-Bryant-Fisher ran the table, as Gasol explained.

Bynum video coming soon. One quote: "This camp is a veteran style training camp. Everyone is ready to go and in their groove already."

"I'm just waiting for somebody to act up a little bit, one of these teams. I'm going to sneak one in, at a real close range to -- bink!" Odom smiled and laughed as he threw a right-handed punch.

videos w/ phil and bynum more text at the link. bynum says he's catching lobs again and that he'll be wearing the brace for the rest of his career per doctor's order.
After a week of (mostly) two-a-day practices, the Lakers have but two days to wait for Wednesday’s preseason tilt against Golden State in Anaheim, when L.A. fans will get a first glimpse at how Ron Artest fits in with the defending champs.

To get a theoretical jump on that front, much of the media focus after Monday’s practice was on Saturday evening’s intersquad scrimmage, as dictated by questions addressed to Phil Jackson, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol.

The Spaniard explained that his team – featuring Artest, Kobe Bryant, Derek Fisher and Lamar Odom – was unbeaten, a fact that came as no surprise. When similarly prompted for scrimmage details, Jackson failed to give it too much credence; while confirming that Bryant’s team didn’t lose, the head coach quipped that he “(couldn’t) remember that far back” and offered few details.

Meanwhile, Bynum said he was matched up against Gasol at times, Josh Powell at others and even training-camp-signee Michael Fey, a rookie out of UCLA, in part due to the absence of the injured D.J. Mbenga. Bynum, who reiterated that his knees are feeling good and that making the All-Star team remains his goal, feels good about the team’s progress thus far. “This training camp is definitely a veteran style training camp,” he said. “Everyone is in their groove and ready for the season to start.”

Phil sounds grumpy/sick and biased against Bynum as usual. I wonder if the mind games will work or we're slowly coming to a point where Bynum will get fed up. I can see both persectives-

Phil- be a cog not a star and we'll win we have scorers and veterans for the clutch and you haven't proved much or done the things we want in the trenches for boards and blocks.

Bynum- I can be a star no doubt but the coach has it out for me. I shoot a high percentage and just need more minutes and clutch time.

Ideally as the Kobe and others age Bynum's role increases and he can be a more complete performer. That requires the kid's patience. I could also see him getting sick of Phil's prejudice against him and wanting out, but I don't think Phil will be here that long, so maybe it will be perfect timing for a changing of the guard. I'm sure whoever takes over would give a more thorough look. And hopefully Drew's jackass agent keeps his mouth shut and isn't the devil on his shoulder.
