I'm not sure it is as simple as the coaching. Maybe it is. But the Vikings simply have a good offensive line, the best RB in the league and a QB who is one of the best at all time in evading the sack. And our defense isn't an over-powering physical force like the philosophy we had under Fritz Shurmur.
And a small part of the D's problem is the fact our offense many times in the first half is unable to put together sustained drives with a running game to give the D a rest. It seems like our offense much of these last three years is have Grant, Jennings or Driver make some great 50-yard play.
Look, there's no doubt that the Vikes have a great offensive line...possibly the best in football. But, we all know that giving Favre all the time in the world isn't going to help our chances. What's the solution? I don't know. I just know that I've seen other teams get pressure on Favre, both by having exotic blitz packages and by mere pressure from the linemen.
If our problem is a players thing, then why hire Capers in the first place if we're not going to give him the players to run his system? If it's a coaching thing, then that obviously falls on Capers shoulders.
It seems like a lose-lose situation, but honestly, that defense has been incredibly underwhelming when we've needed them the most.
