Re: Channing Frye
I don't understand why people think that shooting threes means no defensive rebounds...It has nothing to do with it. Maybe OFFENSIVE rebounds, yeah, but we are not getting many of those anyway. The main problem is defensive rebounds, and it's an issue that has NOTHING to do with Frye shooting threes.

Very true.
Every game we blatantly lose will be because of either:
1. Opponent 2nd chance points (def reb)
2. Turnovers
or a combo of both.
Possession for possession, we will outscore any team, and as long as we KEEP UP on rebounds and dont pass the opponent in turnovers, we wont lose. Simple as that.
More 3s
Higher FG%
More PTS
SSOL Recipe ftw

Re: Channing Frye
Can anyone else see some duplication in skills between our current starters and those of previous years' starters?
Ie
Nash = Nash
Stoudemre = Stoudemire
Hill = JJ's skills/ Marion's D and 3ball
Frye = Q's offense in Diaw's body
Rich = Leandro + Marion on offense in Q's body?
So it's almost like trotting out Nash/ Marion/ Q/ Amare and some Leandro/ JJ elements on Offense
while at the same time having Nash/ Q/ Marion/ Stoudemire/ Diaw on D..?
Maybe not, I dunno

Uh, Bargs is a better defender and is closer to Dirk than he is to Frye. I don't mean he's as good as, just that he has more offensive options - drives, stepbacks etc - than CF.
That I've seen so far, that is - that one drive last night was an eye-opener

Right - and on offense, missed threes tend to be long rebounds, as I believe someone pointed out. It's 2nd chance baskets the other way that hurt us. The only way to fix it is to put bodies on people, which slows the break for us. You can't do both, right?

Re: Channing Frye
If I remember from the box score correctly there was a 15 posession discrepancy between us and Minny.
82-97. They got 15 more attempts off and 4 more offenssive rebounds than we did. If we can tighten up opposing 2nd chance points and attempts, and surround those rebounds with orange, we will be able to work this system to death this year. The difficult part is that SSOL is really designed to have an incredible rebounder pull the board while 3 or 4 other guys start leading the break. The more people we have rebounding, the less people we have on the break.
Overall, thus far Frye has been an amazing, cheap addition, and ironically would work well playing next to Oden in POR. Oh well, their loss. We also should wait a few more games to review consistency before declaring Frye the Savior. As much as Kerr has been maligned, if this plan works out this year, he will be a condidate for Exec of the year. Crazy notion I know, but there is a chance this will work. Once we get through November and December we'll have a better idea of how good we actually are. important not to get too confident right now to make sure we keep ourselves ready to face the Lakers, Dallas, San Antonio, Cleveland, Boston and Orlando. if we can beat 4 out of 6 of those teams the first time we play them, we'll be sitting pretty.

I've noticed that too but I'm not sure if that's just my imagination or if the numbers actually back it up.

Re: Channing Frye
While the tre is smooth and, apparently, when he is on he's on (at least at home, we will see about the road here these next few games). What I think will be even more deadly than his 3-point shot is what he develops to work off of a defender rushing out to try and defend that shot. You could see him start to work with it on some of his drives off the pump fake, but he looked kinda rough trying to drive to the hoop. I think that will smooth out as time goes on, but I'd really like to see a plan take action so that it isn't all on Frye to make or break that play. Something similar to his sweet dish to JR for that open look the other night. It's not going to take long to see what better defensive teams do against his range as we face some pretty tough teams on this road trip. The Celtics immediately come to mind because, hey, they have a big man that can take you outside the arc too!
Best of luck to the team on this road trip, as it is surely going to be a test to see where the team is actually at.
EDIT: I opened this thread anticipating some more comments like the ones on the last page or so. Pretty funny to see that quick turn around from "Why is this guy shooting so many 3's?" to "LET THE RAIN POUR!" haha

Its not your imagination, he shoots much worse on the road. Including the pre-season, he is shooting 25% on the road and 54% at home. Only 3 games on the road though, but he had a 2-10 and 1-9 game in the pre-season.
Yeah, heres his home/away numbers to this point:
Home - 23.5ppg, 66% fg
Away - 8.5ppg, 38% fg
Theres been 2 home games and 4 away games, and theres a huge difference between the teams played @ home vs the teams played away.
Home - GSW, MIN
Away - LAC, MIA, ORL, BOS
I guess we'll just have to see how he's like playing a poor team away and a good team @ home so that we can see whether its the opposition D or whether its being away from home thats having the bigger impact

Also, consider the talent of the opposition in the Orlando and Boston games.

I think it's more than enough and still very deadly if he could pump fake the played assigned to him and take the ball to about 15ft and draw in a help defender and either pass inside if he draws the interior help defender or pass to the open 3's if he draws in help from the perimeter.
IMO at 6'11 and with the ability to shoot the 3, he could be an even better pick and pop guy for Nash if he improves his handles and passing. Imagine pick and pop with Nash and Frye. Nash would get the pick and pass off the Frye at the 3 and if the guard switches onto Frye he can just shoot over and if the big stays with Frye, he could take him off the dribble and draw in wing defenders then pass to open man. Kinda like what Amare and Nash does, but instead of becoming the finisher like Amare, he can become a facilitator with the ball in his hand.
