That was really strange. Rondo was just left alone time after time for lay ins. Flynn was impressive though- first time I've seen him in the pros.
The thing is it is not really Jonny's fault for Rondo scoring in the 3rd, sure some of it is, but like Jim Pete said it was there game plan for Flynn to be a roamer on defense, they were giving Rondo open shots early on. The Celtics changed their gameplan in the 3rd, because they saw the weakness in our post defense. It wasn't all Jonny's fault because Big Al and the other post players weren't helping on defense when it was Jonny's job to double KG. Thats the thing with the Celtics though, you are gonna have to double somebody, and then your going to give things up becuase they are so stacked with talent. In my opinion we shouldn't have doubled KG at all. We don't have the defensive players to make a great passer like KG make mistakes. I think we played very well last night on both ends of the court. Brewer and Gomes shut down Pierce and Allen while also making them work on the defensive side of the ball. Big Al is definately getting his legs back under him and his touch is really coming back fast. Flynn played well getting everyone involved in the second half. Depeche Mode stepped up and did his job and hit shots, played some hard nosed defense too, at least for his standards. Hollins hustled and played good defense, still very raw on the offensive side of the ball. The one thing I noticed is I think Pecherov is our only big right now who isn't getting lost on the offensive side of the ball. Hollins gets lost a lot and even Big Al has some problems knowing where to be sometimes. That is to be expected when your learning a new offense though. The guy I am most impressed with is probably Brewer or Big Al. Big Al has played really well coming back so early from surgery, I can't wait to see what he looks like around all star break. Brewer has pretty much amazed me. I was so down on him when the season started, I didn't even want his option picked up a couple days ago, but now, his defense is even better, added a little(very little at that) muscle, and his offense is looking a lot better. The one thing they need to change is him dribbling the ball. He just shouldn't dribble the ball, because he tends to dribble himself into bad shots. He should only keep working on being a spot up shooter and a secondary cutter. I do like to see him post up smaller shooting guards though. His height could really create mismatches there. Anyway I hope this effort was more than just a one night thing.
