I don't like taking on MLE money for a bad defending, perimeter oriented 3/4. That's money that would be better spent next season locking Daniels into a MLE contract, or resigning Ray and later Perk. It just doesn't make fiscal sense, nor basketball sense. We're already perimeter oriented on the 2nd unit--this deal would make it worse and make our defense worse as well.
Nocioni just isn't that good and he makes too much money.
You're assuming that by taking on the contract that the team will be unwilling to spend the MLE next offseason? Otherwise, while I concur with your assessment that he will be overpaid for his worth, he has a role that he can fill on the team backing up Pierce and will be a trade chip after next season as an expiring contract. More to the point, I get the sense that there will not be many beneficial trade offers for this bundle of players on another $7mm salaried contributory player.
