You don't want to be known as the franchise that traded the 2nd best point guard of all time, for jack squat.
And Paul has a realistic chance to become just that by the end of his career.
Plus, as long as Paul is on the team, the Hornets WILL be in playoff contention. This year injuries have been an issue, but a healthy NOH squad wins 45 games and squeaks into the playoffs at a minimum.
This can be expected to continue for as long as Paul plays with the team - without him, they wouldn't win 20 and are screwed for the indefinite future.
Project the difference in revenue (not just ticket sales, but advertising dollars and general interest) between a worst case scenario 45-win playoff team and one with zero hope of ever going anywhere...for the length of Paul's contract.
Now, tell me again how Chris Paul is getting traded for expirings...
