If Chris Paul was 30, I think this would be more realistic. But at 24, this would simply never happen. They have to wait two more years to clear most of the deadweight off of their cap at which point Paul will be 26 and at the peak of his prime. They could clear more by packaging West with Posey.

Probably correct. The danger I suppose is that Paul gets impatient with the team getting worse and worse as they send out talent for financial relief and opts out in 2012. I could see them losing him that way.

You don't want to be known as the franchise that traded the 2nd best point guard of all time, for jack squat.

And Paul has a realistic chance to become just that by the end of his career.

Plus, as long as Paul is on the team, the Hornets WILL be in playoff contention. This year injuries have been an issue, but a healthy NOH squad wins 45 games and squeaks into the playoffs at a minimum.

This can be expected to continue for as long as Paul plays with the team - without him, they wouldn't win 20 and are screwed for the indefinite future.

Project the difference in revenue (not just ticket sales, but advertising dollars and general interest) between a worst case scenario 45-win playoff team and one with zero hope of ever going anywhere...for the length of Paul's contract.

But will anybody who says that they will keep Paul show me some numbers on how they can suffer these financial losses and NOT trade him. Do you think Shinn can swallow $70 mil in losses? Even $40 mil by trading Okafor and West? The guy's only worth $100.
