I knew that the plot of Major League would figure into this somehow.

Johnny Flynn: I play for the Timberwolves.
Snooty rich woman: Here in Minnesota? I didn't know they still had a team!
Johnny Flynn: Yup, we've got uniforms and everything, it's really great!

Maybe there is something to the Major League Conspiracy Theory. The New Orleans guys did look kind of tired last night - like they had just been traveling all day on some substandard means of transportation.

Maybe you didn't read it.

You asked why he'd trade for Okafor.

I said that he made the trade before the team started losing, and that attendance was dropping like a stone.

Times change. He didn't have all the information at the time of the deal that he has now.

Yet you were still talking about NO's financial problems and this exact scenario before the Okafor trade took place.

And you fully admit that even when NO was playing well and drawing fans, they merely broke even...

Yet Shinn didn't know (like you did) that the financial situation was hopeless , and thought that the solution to his problem was adding another long-term contract.

Hmm...

You really do go to great lengths to justify your fantasies...

Right. You can't believe an owner would be more optimistic about his team's success on the floor and at the gate than I would be. Impossible.

You go to great lengths to ignore the numbers.

No difference between "more optimistic" and a multimillionaire being so financially ignorant he's willing to risk financial suicide for what amounts to (according to your precious numbers) a relatively minor payoff?

The difference between you and the rest of us is that we can leave the fantasies at fantasy camp. You insist on bringing them home at the end of the week...

If Chris Paul was 30, I think this would be more realistic. But at 24, this would simply never happen. They have to wait two more years to clear most of the deadweight off of their cap at which point Paul will be 26 and at the peak of his prime. They could clear more by packaging West with Posey.

Probably correct. The danger I suppose is that Paul gets impatient with the team getting worse and worse as they send out talent for financial relief and opts out in 2012. I could see them losing him that way.

You don't want to be known as the franchise that traded the 2nd best point guard of all time, for jack squat.

And Paul has a realistic chance to become just that by the end of his career.

Plus, as long as Paul is on the team, the Hornets WILL be in playoff contention. This year injuries have been an issue, but a healthy NOH squad wins 45 games and squeaks into the playoffs at a minimum.

This can be expected to continue for as long as Paul plays with the team - without him, they wouldn't win 20 and are screwed for the indefinite future.

Project the difference in revenue (not just ticket sales, but advertising dollars and general interest) between a worst case scenario 45-win playoff team and one with zero hope of ever going anywhere...for the length of Paul's contract.

Now, tell me again how Chris Paul is getting traded for expirings...

As usual, you make up stuff to argue against that no one said. Argumentiveness 10, honesty 0.

Yes - trading Paul would be painful. Any owner would hate to do it. Its a last resort.

But will anybody who says that they will keep Paul show me some numbers on how they can suffer these financial losses and NOT trade him. Do you think Shinn can swallow $70 mil in losses? Even $40 mil by trading Okafor and West? The guy's only worth $100.

No more waving the hands -- prove your contention.

Why don't you provide some actual proof that they are suffering these financial losses? That Shinn is worth what you say he is?

All you've ever done is provide a bunch of speculation.
