Lets be honest, this Kings team that played against the Lakers last night is NOT the same Kings team Martin played on the first few games of the season. You dont trade away a piece of your puzzle until it is PROVEN it doesnt fit. Let the players play it out before you go crazy with your GM skills. I think Petrie has shown he is more than capable. With that being said i cant wait to see what this Kings team is like with Martin back in the starting line up!!! Good days are ahead kings fans
This.
The thing is, about half of the current Kings fanbase jumped on the bandwagon in 2002 when we got good, and then jumped off in 2007 when we stopped getting to the playoffs. (I wonder how many people can actually name any pre-1999 kings players other than Mitch Richmond?) When we win, everybody's happy. But when we lose, everyone wants to trade somebody. It's just like when everybody was so gosh darn happy when he had the best record in the league in 2002, and people were just WAITING for that ring. Webber went down in the 2003 playoffs. The next season we started winning without him (just like we're doing right now without Kevin Martin) and what were people saying back then? TRADE WEBBER! WE'RE BETTER WITHOUT HIM! And what happened when we DID trade him? WHY DID WE TRADE WEBBER?!?! What are people saying now that we're winning with Kmart out of the lineup? TRADE MARTIN! WE'RE BETTER WITHOUT HIM!
I swear, Sacramento has some of the most two-faced fans I've ever seen. I'm telling you, WATCH what happens if Evans' production ever starts sliding a little bit. Or if (heaven forbid) he gets injured after Martin comes back and the team somehow keeps on winning. Will it be, "WE'RE BETTER WITHOUT EVANS"???
Just curious...
LOL! This post is incredibly offensive. I'm a bandwagoner because I wouldn't mind seeing Martin traded? I've been watching the Kings since I was born dude, and I can name plenty of pre-Mitch players and better yet, I HAVE THEIR BASKETBALL CARDS. I also never wanted to trade Webber either.
Don't make so many ridiculous assumptions. It just makes you look like an ass.
You misunderstand. And first of all, I said HALF the fanbase, not the ENTIRE fanbase. Those are two different things. Obviously there are SOME people who have been fans for a while. It's the fairweather people who's loyalty I question. But anyway...
I'm not calling YOU out personally for not MINDING a trade for Kevin Martin, so do not take my post so seriously or personally. If you wouldn't MIND a trade, then that's your opinion and you are fully entitled to it. What I have a problem with are people who simply want Kevin Martin OFF THE ROSTER for no apparent reason. It's like the Tracy McGrady treatment, except you can't even make the claim that Kmart "quit" on his team. They have no plan or strategy for the future success of the team, nor can they even name a legitimate and feasable trade FOR Martin that would actually improve the team. They just want him gone. Period. End of story. Just trade him for "somebody" who's good. It's the short-sightedness that "we're winning without him, so that means we don't need him at all, so lets trade him". As I said, it was the very same popular sentiment when Webber went down and the team was still winning. Most people don't look at the big picture and can only see whats going on RIGHT NOW. THAT, my friend, is what I have a problem with. I have no problem with you not MINDING a trade. But can you name me a trade thats actually POSSIBLE and would
without a doubt improve our team immediately AND have a greater impact than actually keeping him on the roster? If so, I would really like to hear it because that would actually be an intelligent and respectable opinion. (not saying that you don't have one, I'm just saying that I would like to hear the discussion)
If the "fans" were GMs right now, we would be royally SUCKING right now with Martin out and NO
Rubio either. (because if the fans had their way, we wouldn't have drafted Evans in the first place)
I think people should calm down and let Geoff Petrie do his job. He's done at LEAST a halfway decent job thus far, right?
