That's what I've seen, too, and it's what makes me think he'd be really good here.

Rubio makes great passes, but he doesn't pound the air out of the ball for 20 seconds, he makes quick desicions.

Yep, his name was Scottie Pippen

Pippen was a great passer, for a small forward. Not really a good comparison with what Rubio does.

I'd think you'd want to give Rubio as many playmaking opportunities as possible.

Playmakers are playmakers ... The triangle offense takes away play-making if your a PG with limitations? ... I think it's just that we've learned Flynn has more limitations than expected. He doesn't have the game YET to create without pick-n-roll, gets a ton of shots blocked and his defense is horrible. Still, he has the potential ...

Sessions is averaging substantially less assists this year than he did last year. Playmakers are playmakers, but it's hard to make plays if you don't have the ball.

How much are the wolves running the triangle right now? Early in the season they were supposedly only using it 20% of their offensive sets. Has it increased a lot since then?

I don't see this as being a big deal. First, Kahn and Rambis have said multiple times that the primary identity of this team wil be up-tempo, running. That fits Rubio perfectly. Second, Rambis has said multiple times that the triangle will just be one of several sets that they flow into in halfcourt situations and that it would probably be just 20% of the time. Third, an elite player should be able to play in any situation.

2nd point: Whatever offense we're running, it doesn't seem to be going through the point guard as indicated by the lack of point guard assists on this team.

3rd point: I'm not saying Rubio couldn't be successful in this offense, I'm saying it's probably not taking full advantage of his talents.

In theory you should be able to drive and kick easily in the triangle and hit a streaker or open shooter. The triangle is just a motion offense, Phil Jackson's version isn't the only way to do it.

I'm not talking about Phil Jackson's version, I'm talking about Kurt Rambis's version which so far seems to have limited our point guard assists. He could adjust it, and I hope he will.

This is true. I doubt, however, that Rubio will need to "learn how to become a point guard" like our current starter. Bring one of the best passers in the world here and add a couple wing scorers and I suspect our PG assists will magical increase.

I'm using Sessions as the baseline. Last year he averaged 5.7 assists in 27 minutes, this year he's averaging 3.0 in 21 minutes. It could be partially because of the the talent around him, but that's still a significant drop off.

Pippen was the point guard for those bulls teams on ofense and thats plain obvious. I am not comparing Rubio and Pippen or their passing abilites. :D

If your a good passer (at any position) then you will succeed in the Triangle offense, Rubio i a great passer so I expect him to succeed within the ofense

This might seem like a weird question, but couldn't you just swap the roles of a point guard and one of the forwards in the triangle? Like have Corey running through screens while Jonny does the passing? That'd make it easier for Rubio I think.

I think you have a good point, but it's really hard to trust any trend-lines just yet. New coaches + new teammates + new system (one of the harder ones to learn) + new league for many (a bunch of rookie and 2nd year players on this team) = pretty good excuse for low assists.

I'm not saying you're not right, you might be. I'm just saying the numbers are really hard to take seriously so soon. We all knew this was going to be a 40 game practice followed by a 42 game season. Knowing that logically in your head is a lot different than seeing it though. And good grief it's ugly sometimes.

I agree ... Rubio would have very little trouble learing and executing this offense. The way I see it ... Rubio executes offense and Flynn executes plays - that he's involved in. That does not mean he is selfish, but it does suggest he feels a need to be more directly involved.

I also agree that we need a Scorer, regardless, who the PG is. This would make the whole assist thing look better.

I'm not sure that's a fair comparison. Rubio's allowed to get his swerve on more often than Flynn. As Rambis has said, in the triangle, a point guard's offense is supposed to come on the back end. That doesn't really play to the strengths of either Rubio or Flynn.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

It really doesnt matter, The traingle isfor when our running game doesnt work anyway and we start to stagnate.

Prefered play #1

Love/Jefferson rebound
Love/Jefferson pass to Rubio
Rubio pass to streaking 2/3 (Turner/Gay/etc) for dunk or layup.

Prefered play #2

Rubio gets inbound of score
Brings ball down
Throws it to Jefferson
Jefferson Scores

Prefered play #3

Rubio gets ball
Rubio drives, draws defenders and makes magnificant pass
Anyone scores easy basket

Prefered play #4

Triangle

Prefered play #5

Chaos and we dont score.

Brewer goes up for a wild dunk, jumps as high and far as he can, and knees their SG in the forehead who was waiting there the whole time. Charge is called, Brewer says to teammate on the sideline "It was worth it."
