Let's be honest. Up until six or seven years ago, Los Angelinos totally ignored the Minneapolis history of their favorite franchise. It wasn't until they realized they could jump up into the Celtics' stratosphere that they started to tack on those extra championhips.
I do it, too. But I kind of like how the pro leagues have started to treat franchise moves -- leave a city, and you leave the history.
Well if you grew up in the 60's, 70's like me in a split family mom in WLA and dad in MPLS, probably have more feeling and appreciation for the older Lakers. Since MPLS didn't have a team in the 70's and 80's I'd say the city (at least of people I knew) was probably 50% Laker fans, 30% Bucks and the rest spread. Funny how there were no Bulls fans back then because they sucked for most of their history until 86-87.
Re the older Lakers Pollard, Mikkelsen and Slater Martin. All HOF's and top 15 Lakers. I'd go Vern at 11 for sure, with the Kangaroo Kid and Slater a smidge behind.
