Because if you add him, you probably have to find a slot for Jim Pollard too, but there's probably not much of a groundswell for that, is there?

Let's be honest. Up until six or seven years ago, Los Angelinos totally ignored the Minneapolis history of their favorite franchise. It wasn't until they realized they could jump up into the Celtics' stratosphere that they started to tack on those extra championhips.

I do it, too. But I kind of like how the pro leagues have started to treat franchise moves -- leave a city, and you leave the history.

Well if you grew up in the 60's, 70's like me in a split family mom in WLA and dad in MPLS, probably have more feeling and appreciation for the older Lakers. Since MPLS didn't have a team in the 70's and 80's I'd say the city (at least of people I knew) was probably 50% Laker fans, 30% Bucks and the rest spread. Funny how there were no Bulls fans back then because they sucked for most of their history until 86-87.

Re the older Lakers Pollard, Mikkelsen and Slater Martin. All HOF's and top 15 Lakers. I'd go Vern at 11 for sure, with the Kangaroo Kid and Slater a smidge behind.

Remember when we were 10 - 0 w/ him starting!
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Apparently you never saw Hall of Famer Goodrich play or you would not question him on this list. I probably have seen 20 games in person, another several hundred on TV. He definitely worthy. The top 10 is basically automatic.

G's- Magic, Kobe, West, Goodrich
F's- Baylor, Worthy
C's- Cap, Wilt, Mikan, Shaq

So you disagree with me having issues with him being ranked over Mikan as far as greatest Lakers of all time?

I'm not saying he shouldn't be top 10, (he's just that, 10th IMO) but him being ranked over Mikan is a flat out joke.

No, I'd have him behind Mikan. In my nearly 40 years of Laker watching, the top 6 are unchangeably set (Magic, Cap, Kobe, Logo, Mikan, Elgin). Putting him with Gasol as non-top 10 was my issue. Perhaps I misunderstood your point.

Hollinger wrote:Here are the ground rules: First, we're counting only the time spent as a Laker. So Bob McAdoo gets no credit for winning those scoring titles in Buffalo, for instance. Second, we're counting only the Los Angeles years, not the time the franchise was based in Minneapolis (apologies to George Mikan, Vern Mikkelsen and Jim Pollard). And third, duration matters -- a longer tenure is generally better than a short one.
