When I look at our perimeter, I just don't see a good fit. Parker, Manu, and Jefferson. All are at their best when slashing. I look at teams like Boston and their perimeter lineup complement each other. Rondo is the assist man. Ray is the shooter. Pierce is the slasher. They're balanced. I'd like to blame all of our problems on Richard Jefferson not performing at his usual level, but maybe he's just not a good fit.
Now, moving Manu clears one thing. Our log jam at SG. I think Bogans, Jefferson, and Parker is our most best perimeter lineup. A Manu trade opens minutes for Roger Mason and Michael Finley. We'll be more balanced on our SG/SF rotation.
Amare doesn't solve our defense, but this allows Duncan to concentrate only on defense like David Robinson did. Amare can start being the focus of our offense. Plus, his age (if we resign him) means we'll be contenders for atleast the next 5 years with Parker, Jefferson, and Amare.
If this is NBA LIVE, yeah I'll do it. Unfortunately, I don't think the Spurs are gonna make a trade this big. I can see a trade for.. Camby type. But not for a star player like Amare.
Richard Jefferson has been a good fit..His offense has done wonders for our offense (going from 13th last year to as high as 4th, highest ever in the Duncan era)..Our problem is DEFENSE...which is currently ranked 10th. When was the last time a Spurs defense was out of the top 5? I'll tell you when...the year we tanked for Duncan.
Our defense is not the same because of two things: 1) small ball lineup that Pop uses out of necessity and 2) weak defensive bigs..We go small because we have no other choice (Finley is still out)..We need a competent backup SF who can defend reasonably well that way we don't have to play Parker and Hill at the same time and Ginobili out of position..Hill cannot defend players that routinely have 4+ inches on him..Ginobili cannot defend players that are bigger and bulkier than him..We need a good interior defender who can help protect the basket because Bonner, Blair, and Dyess are not getting it done..Duncan is the lone defensive big but at 33 he can't do it all by himself..Stoudemire solves none of those things..
