Artest versus Rodman
Hey Laker fans,
how does artest compare to Rodman. I realise Rodman is another dimension in terms of rebounding but as an overall defender how does Artest stack up?

Comparing Artest to Rodman is like comparing a Chihuahua to a Doberman Pinscher.

Re: Artest versus Rodman
Tough choice but Rodman had to defend guys like Karl Malone and Charles Barkley in his day. Rodman was even on the best Bulls team. I go with Rodman on this one but it's not as wide open as I would have thought.

Re: Artest versus Rodman
Artest is hurt (planter faciitus), and learning a whole new offense where to get his looks, unfair comparison ATM imo.

Well comparing current Artest(last 3 years) to any Rodman would be silly. Prime Artest(or any version for that matter) is a better scorer though.

Re: Artest versus Rodman
Artest is the much better offensive player but Rodman is one of the best rebounders of all time and edges out in the man defense part.

Re: Artest versus Rodman
rodman > artest.
rodman was muchhhhhhhhhh better than artest on the defensive end. not only in terms or rebounds but just being a shut down defender. yes he had no offensive game, but artest isnt exactly a great offensive player as well...he has inflated offensive stats because he was allowed to take a bunch of shots on all the teams he's been on, he has a horrendous career 42% field goal percentage

Re: Artest versus Rodman
The main thing is what does Artest do to get in the heads of the best in the game.
Can he get LBJames or Pierce to throw a punch at him. Can he weird them out with his gay experiences... no but Rodman could. Rodman put the Bulls over the hump vs. Jazz and made the Mailman want to see a councilor. Rodman was very smart and really crazy where Artest just didnt mature.
Artest is still a huge asset to the Lakers but what game has Artest single handily won?

Way too early to pull that out and no Rodman never won a game single handedly when MJ was on the team. He surely was a game changer though.

Re: Artest versus Rodman
Rodman was a crackhead, but he knew what he was doing. He knew when he started to get in someone's head, and he would crack that wide open. I remember in the 96 Finals when he started messing with Frank Brickowski....he would just stare at him when someone was shooting free throws, and he would claim the mental battle every time. Artest isn't about the mental aspect of the game as much as simply playing solid man-to-man defense. It's a tough comparison to make because they were two totally different players who played different positions and had different approaches to their skill.

Re: Artest versus Rodman
It's one of the biggest myth in the history of NBA that Dennis had 0 offensive power. He is not a good scorer, not even a O.K scorer, but worm got some great post moves under the basket back in those Piston days. It's like Rodman know his role and just focus on his role, he is a capable 15ppg scorer if he really wants to. Talking about 0 offense, that's Ben Wallace.

Re: Artest versus Rodman
rodman can jump out of the building. dude was long and reached out with his length to get rebounds. add to that he had a HIGH VERTICAL LEAP to get up. artest is a tough guy, but he is build lower to the ground, and his game stays down there. rodman is known as an alltime great at something. rebounding. artest is not known as an alltime great at anything.
but still, artest is tough. and thats all we need for him to be, fill the role of toughguy.

Rodman would beat the living hell out of Artest.
