You're right. An average team could never beat the best SEC team at their own place... with national championship implications on the line. The second best team in the conference could never lose to South Carolina at home.
Really, the SEC has some good teams (LSU, Florida and Georgia) but the rest of the conference is decidedly average or below average. The venues are nice, and that helps with the product on TV, but the SEC really gets more credit that it deserves. A 3 loss Florida team in the Top 10? A 4 loss Auburn in the Top 25? A fairly average Arkansas team getting 138 votes in the AP??
