The Hawks are interested in Boston forward Rasheed Wallace but the Celtics apparently aren’t interested in dealing him. It was probably a long shot anyway since (here it is again) ownership doesn’t seem inclined to take on future money. Wallace has two years and about $13 million left on his contract after this season.
"interested" must not mean what I think it means. Rasheed has played like an uninspired shell of himself for the last couple of years. His lack of performance for the Celtics is one of the reasons that the Hawks have dominated the Celtics this year. It's not that he doesn't still have the skills to help, he just seems to lack any desire to use them. Why would we want a piece of that action? Let alone 2 more years of it. Even if the owners were inclined to take on future money I wouldn't want it invested in him. What I can't figure is whether this was his idea, whether someone with the Hawks was playing a joke on him, or if someone geniunely wants Rasheed? If number 3 is the case I think dismissal might be order.
I can understand bringing up Amare and Camby for the more casual fan who isn't fully versed on cap math to explain why we aren't going to be in on any trades. I can understand shooting down Kurt Thomas as the only rumor that the Hawks have been heard to be in. Rasheed, though? That was from left field. Why throw out that weak stuff just to shoot it down? Was Rasheed the only recognizable name to create a rumor about?
