Is this really our beat writer?

Hawks (no) trade primer

The Hawks are interested in Boston forward Rasheed Wallace but the Celtics apparently aren’t interested in dealing him. It was probably a long shot anyway since (here it is again) ownership doesn’t seem inclined to take on future money. Wallace has two years and about $13 million left on his contract after this season.

"interested" must not mean what I think it means. Rasheed has played like an uninspired shell of himself for the last couple of years. His lack of performance for the Celtics is one of the reasons that the Hawks have dominated the Celtics this year. It's not that he doesn't still have the skills to help, he just seems to lack any desire to use them. Why would we want a piece of that action? Let alone 2 more years of it. Even if the owners were inclined to take on future money I wouldn't want it invested in him. What I can't figure is whether this was his idea, whether someone with the Hawks was playing a joke on him, or if someone geniunely wants Rasheed? If number 3 is the case I think dismissal might be order.

I can understand bringing up Amare and Camby for the more casual fan who isn't fully versed on cap math to explain why we aren't going to be in on any trades. I can understand shooting down Kurt Thomas as the only rumor that the Hawks have been heard to be in. Rasheed, though? That was from left field. Why throw out that weak stuff just to shoot it down? Was Rasheed the only recognizable name to create a rumor about?

Ok, maybe I spoke too soon. This columnist probably needs to read the Cunningham No Trade Primer:

Atlanta's Inactivity Could Lead to Johnson's Departure

I don't really care what the columnist thinks, but I hope Joe isn't so delusional as to think Atlanta should be trying to land Amare. Ignoring what it would take to offer matching salary and whether that even is of interest to Suns ownership, does Joe really want to see the team turned over for a few month rental of Amare? Could the team after 2 max guys next year?

As Killbuckner often points out the Hawks made their deadline deal last summer when they took on Jamal Crawford for all the expiring contracts we had. They then resigned all the teams free agents of note. That trade has worked out brilliantly and we've reaped the benefits all year as opposed to trying to integrate midseason. We've not got the pieces to tweak right now and to bring in someone more substantial requires a big shakeup in the lineup. Our best bet this year is to stay the course and hope to get lucky. It might be boring, but its got a better chance of being successful that what these columnist are hinting at.

I was under the impression that Sund doesn't really like to make in-season changes.

I could be wrong, but I don't believe we gain a significant player unless we give up Horford or Smoove.
Marvin has limitations, Bibby has limitations, and for what we need in the post, it will be a reach to have a player come in here and be a difference maker for the playoff run.

I'm won't worry about JJ's status until after the season and see where we end up. But we do need someone to help with DHoward more than any other team because we probably have to get thru them or Cleveland.
Despite last year's results, I think we match up fine with Cleveland and might push them to a longer series.

That's just a terrible rumor. I don't believe for a second the Hawks have ANY interest in R. Wallace. He's NOT physical, loves to launch and miss 3s and doesn't play with intensity. The guy had and still has some of the skills to be amazing, but he's too dumb to realize his strenghts. I have the feeling he'll regret all the things he didn't do in his carreer when he looks back at all those years he's been in the league, a pure waste of talent. He's a problem for the Celtics now and would become one for us. I'm not really expecting any trades, even though we need a C, well, we've needed one for years anyway. Can't we find a way to send Zaza away for a productive player at C such as N. Collinson?
GO HAWKS.
