IMO it is already highly arguable which player is more efficient on the court---the hardworking, efficiently scoring guy in the paint or the cucking perimeter player who is injury prone,on a longterm contract and plays no defense at all.
As a knick fan, the thing I take from this deal is that the Rockets and Knicks weren't even close to an agreement. I personally feel like Landry as a player isn't worse than Martin (although they are obviously very hard to compare) in terms of efficiency on the court---but given the remaining 4 years and Martin's injury riddled past I don't see this as better than Jeffries who becomes an asset as an expiring, Hill and two picks. That makes me believe that Walsh wasn't even close to offering that otherwise Morey would have been dumb to take Martin.
This also erases all your capspace so you have to go over the cap limit to keep Scola and Lowry(who are probably gonna add a combined 10mill. to the cap).
That said I like both teams (Sac and houston) so I hope it works out for you guys and Martin stays healthy and produces cause he can be a terrific scorer.
It is reported Rockets had offered TMac and Budinger for Iggy and Dal but Sixers wanted more. As noted the contracts coming in are not expiring unlike the current with Martin and expiring that basically remove any flexibility should this move did not work well with Rockets. For this deal with Kings, if for some reason did not work out well, Rockets are still ok with expiring contracts.
Wizards prefered Mavs' deal and over Rockets and Rockets is not going to pay above that price. End of story for that.
I would disagree that Jeffries plus Hill and 2 picks would be of same value or better than Martin. Martin filled the biggest current needs (SG position) while Jeffries do not. Hill may have potential but he is not ready to contribute this season or next season. The picks are also more of future and current. since we are talking about 2011 and 2012 picks rather 2010 pick. There is also no gurantee these picks will be high value should Knicks managed to get 2 Max FA this summer. Hence Martin's value is definitely better than Jeffries + Hill + 2 picks (and one of the 2 picks is a pick swap). And Knicks want Protection for the picks making the picks worth much lesser.
Now the Kings and Rockets have an agreed deal in place, it is up Knicks to offer something that both Kings and Rockets are happy with. The cards are with Kings and Rockets as they are happy with just dealing among themselves.
