I don't know who gives us a first rounder for Grant though. Invaluable piece and a value at the price but I think he's worth more to us than we could get back in any trade from another team, if that makes any sense.

Yeah, I just started thinking about that.. Grant is staying weather we like it or not, but trading Nash? I don't know about that.

Agreed fishi, I mean the bit about us having the same shot as the Lakers etc..well my earlier post shot that down as well.

BUT, I think if Sarver had the balls he could get a better supporting cast for Nash. Let's face it; Nash still can and will carry us through the playoffs. We just need to fill out the rest of the roster. If you have to sign and trade Ama're to spread out the talent more evenly then do it, but I think it's ridiculous for a team of our caliber to say, well screw it let's just let a premier veteran PG rot in hell as we decide that even though we are a PLAYOFF team, we shouldn't really try to advance in the playoffs.

I so agree with this! Nash needs a better supporting cast, I mea n Jason Richardson... eww. Grant Hill is too old, Robin is good, I don't know about Lopez though, cause I can't see us getting another center. Amare is OK. He is a good player, he needs to develop defensive skills. But who can they get? Miklo.

Can we be a contender with Nash and Amare? Absolutely. But not in this state and not with this management/ownership.

I've always liked the idea of Amare being our guy and building around him. Use Amare the same way Denver uses Melo, he may not be the leader but he's still our franchise guy and he'll still lead us to victory. I'm not sure if Nash can still carry us through the playoffs with this supporting cast, but if he had more help and not have to do *everything*. With our current squad and with no secondary ballhandler/playmaker, Nash will not be able to do everything over a 7 game series. He may be balling for 5-6 games but there's no way he can take us past the 2nd round when he's the only guy who can create for himself, create for his team mates and shoot the clutch shots.

I was OK with letting Nash go in the offseason even though he's my favourite player, I just didn't see any chance we'll be a title contender in the near future and it's unfair to a player like him to rot on a team that's clearly going nowhere quickly.

as most of us would agree to, the suns need to start rebuilding...

now, we have certain players on our team that deserve a ring, i.e. Grant Hill and Steve Nash...
in my opinion, Kerr should wait to see how this coming offseason's free agency works out, then do his best to trade both those players to the best contending team, and in return get 1st round draft picks and also younger players...
considering we'll be trading to contending teams, we can also involve a 3rd team so that we can get young talent and expiring contracts.... maybe a trade with Cavs (or knicks, depending on where lebron ends up) and memphis? or a trade with lakers and thunder? or magic?

its not up to me, but i think it'll be wrong to let HIll and especially Nash leave the NBA title-less...

Kerr/Sarver, please do what's right morally, which eventually leads to the right thing for ur team..

some of the best point guards of all time dont have a ring, even though they deserve one or more..
dont let Nash join the title-less greats

No player in the NBA "deserves" a ring. I hate that argument. If that were the case, the Suns "deserve" a ring for being in the league 40+ years.
Kerr/Sarver aren't just going to trade away all of the Suns assets for a chance of getting a high lottery pick to hopefully contend in two-three years down the line.

The trouble with going to a contender is that at BEST you have 33% chance you're going to the correct contender.

It becomes a question of: Do you uproot your family (and your kids' friends, in Nash's case), leave a system that makes you enjoy basketball (and in Nash's case, essentially helped invent), leave a group of players you like, for a 1-in-3 AT BEST chance ...

Now, we are talking about people whose level of competitiveness is so high it's hard for us normal human beings to even comprehend it, so the chance at a championship has pull we probably don't quite understand. But it's not quite as simple as the OP implied.

Nash and Amare are certainly a core you could be a championship team around. I think the Suns can win it all right now. Nash is only 36, and in the other thread I said he had only been outplayed by 4 or 5 PGs occasionally, not consistently. Nash is definitely the #1 PG in the NBA. Most impact, most valuable, best passer, and best shooter, average defender. He's playing as well, or better than he ever has. Despite being 36. That's something I will bank a franchise on. (And the Suns obviously will too.)

Anyhow, the Suns can make a run this season, and will. First round knockout? Naw. Rebuild around Amare and Steve. JRich needs to go, Clark needs to go, and Hill may run out of gas soon. Bring in a defensive SG and a defensive SF, or start Dudley.
The Phoenix Suns - 54-28. Projected Record: 54-28 3rd Seed

The Phoenix Suns - 2010-2011 Projected Record: 30-52 3rd lottery pick.

You know, we don't often agree but I have to say you've hit the nail on the head there.
Not making the playoffs was certainly the number one reason PHX didn't win the championship last year.

Nash is retiring as a sun unless Sarver and Kerr screw it up real bad. He likes it here. He makes good money. And we sure as hell know he doesn't give a s*** about what people think of him so I doubt he goes ring chasing ala payton.
