This team is already better for one obvious reason.

All I want is a proven coach with a winning record that can teach young players how to play the game and focuses on defense. We aren't contending for a championship or anything special here...a retread is just fine.
The Guilty Party wrote:What happened to Larry Brown in NY? Proven coach who was canned after a year because the team was beyond terrible. I'm not saying NY was all his fault but you can fall flat with anyone. My point is this... I would at least rather go down taking a chance on a fresh coach who might actually be good rather than go down with a guy like Sam Mitchell. This is the same reasoning that many of us were against Eddie Jordan. We knew what we were getting and we also knew his offense wouldn't work with a team who can't shoot (I'm not even sure it works with a team who can).

The same goes for Doug Collins.. I think he's a very good coach and would really help this team.

bballin76 wrote:Do you think that would happen with LB here?
You take a risk no matter who you hire, but if you choose the right coach retread it should work out just fine. At the end of the day, players win games.
The Guilty Party wrote:I don't love the idea of Doug Collins being hired but I'd take him over Sam Mitchell. How the hell is Sam Mitchell's name even coming up for this job? It blows me away that we'll look to hire another retread in hopes of striking gold rather than going with someone like Mark Jackson or Laimbeer or even Aaron McKie. Give me the unknown at this point over the retreads that keep being talked about.
There's a good reason that guys like Van Gundy and Fratello and Johnson are talking about the game instead of coaching it... it's because they weren't successful at their jobs. Van Gundy couldn't get Houston past the first round, Johnson coached the Mavs to two memorable collapses, and Fratello has been riding Hubie Brown's coattails since he was an assistant with him in Atlanta. Enough already with the recycled garbage.
