If you really believe that John Paxson - the guy who absolutely hates dealing with the media, the guy who has for two consecutive summers changed his title so that he could fade out of the spotlight - decided to hold a press conference to apologize to someone who pushed him because he yelled first ... well. I don't even know how to end this post. I'm just amazed that the four of you believe that is a remote possibility.

No. And when I do, maybe I'll change my mind. But I doubt it. Because everything you guys have said is being said falls right in line with what is logical. What possible benefit is there to Paxson to reveal the gory details and trash Vinny? This press conference is about stopping the perceived bleeding and moving on.

Those situations aren't similar. If I was exactly in Paxson shoes, yes. I most certainly would.

I certainly wouldn't. I wouldn't ruin my reputation by apologizing to someone who pushed me. No one is going to remember this press conference at the end of the day. That's just the nature of things. People will remember the Vinny-Paxson fight though. By apologizing, Paxson admitted he did it. He didn't try and say that the reports were fabricated. He didn't try to clear his name. He just said, I take full responsibility.

If Vinny punched Paxson, that would be the story.

You aren't adequately considering it from a business and PR perspective. I don't know what else to tell you other than that you just don't get it.

And bear in mind, I'm not saying VDN did actually push Paxson. I'm just saying that nothing Paxson said disproves that story. Not in the least.

I know they didn't say he started it. Because he didn't. But they did say he shoved Paxson, and there's absolutely nothing about this press conference, from what I've read, that would disprove that version of events in the least.

Before you go on about the lenghts I'll go to do defend management, I think you should take a close look at just what it is that I've said and am saying.

Man, you're looking WAAAYY too closely into the 2 people involved.....the "who's right and who's wrong" aspect and looking for a rational answer. You're completely missing that this is a public event now, that people's opinions have come into play, news coverage, people talking on the internet, and that the team is going into a season of trying to woo FA's to come to Chicago.
Believe it or not, finger pointing, blaming, jumping up and down proclaiming that "I'm right! I'm right!" does not come off well, no matter what the situation is. Taking ownership for what you can take ownership for and moving on.....PUBLICLY, that's the way to move past something.

And how, exactly, is that going to help the Bulls more than just putting it in the rear view mirror with a generic, and non-commital apology? This is isn't a street corner. Its a press conference of a major corporation attempting to make significant financial moves in the next 60 days.

Saying he's taking full responsibility for the indicent doesn't imply anything. He's taking resposibilities for his action but unless you were there, you dont know what his actions were, period.

Exactly. And for free agency. And just to be done with it. Ever apologize to your wife/girlfriend to end an argument that you know wasn't your fault? I sure as hell have. Because, in the big picture, it was the smart thing to do.

And again, Pax should have apologized. He was wrong, and did start it, after all.

See, when I say "Pax started it" I'm not talking about the full confrontation, I'm talking about the physical part. I think Pax was the one who elevated it by going physical first. I don't know if that makes a difference, but to me the whole thing "starts" when someone makes the first punch/shove/whatever. From what I gather, I think Pax started the physical confrontation and if he hadn't, I don't think he would have been so contrite (as opposed to if he punched back in self-defense).

In other words, you are imposing your own narrow definition onto someone else and then making a definitive judgment about what happened with no actual evidence one way or another. Sounds reasonable.

Duck, I got to be honest man. I think you're just hung up on playing devil's advocate because you like Paxson.

All the media reports except for one said that Paxson started the physical altercation.

John Paxson held a press conference to apologize for his actions. He answered a question about whether or not he knew if Del Negro was going to sue him and then never denied reports that he pushed Del Negro.

At this point, I think we should agree that the likelihood that Del Negro is at fault is slim to non.
