Rank our possible post players

Post#1 » by Breakdown777 » Tue May 25, 2010 11:27 pm

I think everyone has a different opinion of who we should keep and who we should let go. I know who we should keep depends on some various factors, but I think now might be a good time to get a concise look at how we rate our bigs/possible bigs for trades, values, and percieved chemistry.
I'm going assume our big situation will be: Al, Love, Hollins, Stemsia, Pek, Cousins, Darko. Obviously we want a 3 man rotation, and we have 5 "main" bigs.

Should we do this mock draft style, or just have each poster rank importance? I think mock draft works for overall board view. Lets say first to 10 votes, then move on. A description would be nice but not necessary.

1. Al (1)

I'm going Al even though he doesn't mesh perfectly with what I think the team outlook is. His offensive game is too good to give up, he could improve next year after an offseason of rest, and I don't think we'd get fair value in a trade.

Al (2)

He has the most valuable skill, post scoring. Has increased his shot blocking every year (if you take into account he couldn't jump most of last year). He will be 100% this year.

Al (2), Darko (1)

Darko's not the best, but he's the biggest. And the best on defense. So he's kind of the best.

Al (2), Darko (1), Cousins (1), Love (1)

I think Love has the most value around the league, a hell of a lot of potential, and room to improve. Not that the others don't.

Can we make it best of 10 or something instead of first to 10? I don't think this is working too well.

The Darko votes are perplexing. Does that mean he should be paid more than Al?

Al (2), Darko (3), Cousins (3), Love (2)

Really the #4 pick in general, not just Cousins.
"A while back,'' Cardinal said, "I took a picture of the standings and texted it to Love, just to bust his chops,'' Cardinal said. "He sent me a picture back of a snowdrift.''

As much as I love the pure artwork of Al in the post, I value defense and passing much more. Darko brings those better then Al.

I think Darko is a very good #2 big. Put a true #1 next to him that can hustle, defend and score and he will be a good piece.

Now I am curious. If you are a GM and you had $10M/yr to sign either player, you would rather spend that $10M on Darko?

Okay. Then in your opinion Al is not worth $10M/year and is thus overpaid $3M/year.

What about at $6M/year. Same question, you would rather have Darko than Al at $6M/yr?
