30 million is a lot to leave on the table with or without LeBron. Who knows if Izzo ever gets another NBA coaching offer again. If Izzo ever planned on coaching in the NBA at some point, he'll take this.

Is there anything stopping Izzo from calling LeBron and asking him if he will re-up?

Nope but you have to imagine there has been some sort of conversation. Which makes me skeptical as to why Izzo hasn't accepted. Like another poster said, if it was known Lebron would reup, he would've accepted by now.

Who said?

I doubt any of us has any idea of the weights for Izzo of the cash versus Lebron versus leaving MSU. And since reports are that he is 'torn', means there probably isn't just one thing he's factoring.

I was just saying that you would think that he would've had no problem taking all that money already if the uncertainty about LeBron within Izzo's circle and within Cavs circles wasn't great. Just speculation, on my part, but it would seem like a no-brainer.

On the other hand, he could very well decide to go there without any assurances just based on the absurd amount of money.

This is shocking, I didn't see him accepting the job unless Lebron told him that he was coming back. What good is the job without Lebron?

Just curious though, if Izzo declines the job offer, does it guarantee that lebron is leaving? I dont see any other coach out there that i could see Lebron feeling he's the coach to take them to the title, not that Izzo is that but Izzo is a big name. I dont see Pjax leaving LA, Van Gundy has already said he wont coach and turned down Cleveland according to a report. I dont think any of the names out there strike me as a coach that can lead the cavs with Lebron.

Yeah, that'd probably be a good reason to leave, haha. But still. I just can't see why leap to the NBA now given the type of situation he's going to be involved in. Obviously it works out if Lebron returns, but if he doesn't- he's going to have to get used to alot more losing and one and dones in the playoffs..

I don't think there are any guarantees involved, no. With any coaching or GM hire.

$30 million

I think if he takes it Lebron stays, I think Izzo won't take the job unless he knows LBJ is there, and I don't think the Cavs want to pay 7mil a year for a coach if LBJ is not there. It's not a guarantee, but I think it would send a strong signal that LBJ is reupping.

I think he has to take the job (Or not take the job) without knowing.

Cavs want Lebron to stay. If he leaves, maybe having a big name coach wouldn't hurt.

I have the same feeling. Izzo leaving = LeBron staying

Or they're just desperate as can be to get Lebron to stay and they're hoping a big splash hire (since he won't give them any input and won't communicate with them) will keep him around.

When someone means that much to their franchise, it's probably worth the gamble to Gilbert to spend twice as much as he probably otherwise would on a coach.

should've added "assuming bron is smart". I'm going to assume he is so I'm taking Miami, NY off the list. Cavs are in meltdown mode and hiring a college coach with no nba experience, only thing they have on their side is the hometown thing.

Agreed. I don't think him taking the job would mean LeBron is staying. It means Cleveland is willing to do whatever they can to try to convince him to stay. If worse comes to worse, and he leaves, they have a supposed marquee coach to build around.

This is all these teams can do between now and July 1. Posture and position to win the war.

It's worth noting also that it's worth more than $30 million.

I forget the link I saw yesterday, but it was Dan Gilbert being asked about the $30 million, and he said that it wasn't true, that he offered more per year, that he believed he had to offer up more to make the big splash to get Izzo to come and that it wasn't attached to LeBron staying.

Of course, the second part could be false, but I doubt he'd say he offered even more money if it weren't true.
