In return we receive a perennial All Star PG, a big bodied rebounder even though his contract is huge, a vet defender and 3-point shooter and a rookie guard who scored nearly 15 ppg off the bench last year shooting nearly 38% from behind the arc. The Magic could also thrown in draft picks to make this more appealing to the rebuilding Hornets. As far as i can see, if the Magic make this deal, contention is going to be far more imminent for them for a long time. This will just make the Magic a better team by increasing already strong parts of their team game and filling the holes the team has.

Magic receive:
Chris Paul
Emeka Okafor
James Posey
Marcus Thornton

Hornets Receive:
Vince Carter
Jameer Nelson
Marcin Gortat

that is so lopsided in favor of the magic that's it's vomit inducing. c'mon guys, when making a potential trade package, consider the hornets' side of things. the only way this trade happens is if otis and his team are wearing ski masks and holding glocks

Actually, the deal is very similar to the one I proposed which ends up being a swing of around 65 million dollars that the Hornets would have invested in the next two years.

So no...it isn't robbery. It only is from a fan perspective. Not the front office and ownership.

I don't think they will trade Marcus thoug, they have him on the very cheap for the next several years, and he can be a very every good sixth man, a la Jason Terry
I live rent free in your head. You know who you are :D

Not changing this sig until Magic win a championship. Started 6/26/2015.

True, the addition of him is rather pointless for NO and just beneficial to us. Take him out though and it is a legit deal if they really are looking to cut salary.

A difference of 65 million in two years is a hell of a lot of money.

that was my main beef with that trade. paul and thorton involved in the trade. i also don't see us taking on okafor at all and if we did, we would already have a team wanting him and instantly flip him for more talent.

^^almost, gotta keep jameer though..imagine nelson with paul coming off the bench

Is this some kind of sick, sick, sick, sick, sick joke? Jameer would be lucky to sniff the 20 minute mark

It would be funny if we got Okafor. There was legitimate debate on who we should take in that draft

the only way chris paul ever comes off the bench is to get on the court before opening tip off and telling jameer to save his seat for him.

They won't give us Thornton or any more talent other than Paul and bad contracts. It's gonna be Chris Paul and Okafor for our package and then likely the TPE for another bad contract in Posey.

We wouldn't be getting any talent for Okafor. His contract is that bad.

This is my trade machine go at it.....even though everyone here is sending the same people over to the NO side
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=2f9mu7v

Add a combination of current picks or future picks....maybe rights to fran or rakovich(spellcheck) and i'm not sure about the trade exemption but try to crowbar that in the deal....basically throw the kitchen sink at them but i think Otis said he's not gonna do anything big unless it "blows his socks off" and i don't know if this would do it

if the magic do this trade, then they basically have to win a championship then. We would have to win one just to justify turning the magic into the new Knicks (with all the bloated contracts). We would make Emeka Okafor the most overpaid backup center in the history of the NBA.

I'd like to see the magic bring in Posey, his defense is something the magic need.

The only difference between us and the Knicks being that we would have 2 Top 10 players in the world.

I was looking at the Hornets salaries. We would literally wipe them completely out. They would start from scratch. If we did these proposed trades with Okafor/Posey/Paul, the only player that will be under contract that season is Darren Collison(plus the guys we give them). David West has a player option for 7 mil that he's 100% going to opt out of because he can make more. Julian Wright has a qualifying option. If we give them Gortat and Pietrus/Bass plus the TPE they would have like 12-14 million + their rookies for this year + 4 mil for Vince. Pietrus would also likely opt out of his contract there to put them around 10 million. They literally start over from scratch to rebuild their team.

Obviously if they are trading Chris Paul they would be in a full on rebuilding mode. What better way to be in rebuilding mode then to start from scratch with a young potential superstar at PG(Collison), a quality starting C(Gortat), a lotto pick this year, likely a higher lotto pick next year, and all the money they could possibly want to spend. Rebuild from the draft and free agency. I think that'd be very tempting for them. On the other hand after next season we would be near or over 90 million(depending on JJ and Barnes) in payroll with Posey coming off the books the following year. We could use Jameer to get some cap relief from another team. If our spending is really unlimited, then it'd be worth it to pair Paul with Dwight. If it's not, then obviously we won't be offering this package because we'll be well over our budget.

Buckle up Hornets fans. GM Jeff Bower was just repeatedly asked if CP3 will be traded. His answer "its our job to field call on all players"

If Bower couldn't say no, he is definitely kicking the idea around pretty good.

Saw this on the general board, this can't be nothing but GOOD news :D

making this trade would be totally handing chris paul the keys, but have you guys looked at his box scores from the games he played when he came back from injury? He wasn't the same player. Now if he posted a 23.1 PER for 70 games or more last season then i would say do it, but until then i say keep the team we have.

Otis says were not close on any trades and that he expects to keep our draft pick. In other words a trade is looming which will probably include our pick

I think in this situation Otis does need to lie if we are in contact with them. To admit to that would be to say we don't believe in Jameer. It may be true, but you can't have the team leader thinking he is going to be dealt.
