I have no interest in getting into that and I don't see how a team move came into this, but I will say that there is no OKC model without a bunch of cap space and we have certainly not been averse to enacting what you would describe as "Seattle". And I must say that the assessment of the Capitols situation that you laid out doesn't seem much of a counter point for what I was suggesting. It actually seemed to make the exact opposite point (ie. "Ted is tanky")
But my position isn't really to convince anyone of anything. If you don't like any of this, that's fine, I don't ask anyone to like it nor do I even have a particularly strong opinion as to what we should do. One could make compelling arguments either way. Worst cases: keep Gil and we top out as a sixth seed before fading/ tank and we get the 10th pick for the next three years. Best cases: assorted good things based on drafts or free agency. I don't really know.
The main thing though is that I was just mentioning what it looks like. I mean, we just tried to trade Gil for Vince Carter a couple of days ago. That ain't a subtle hint. And Ric Bucher said on draft night that there's "several teams" interested.
I can fully understand why someone wouldn't like that, I'm just saying "there it is".
Absolutely agree. It would be incredibly risk-averse to trade Gil now for stale peanuts (Eddy Curry) without really seeing how he plays with Wall. Personally, I think Gil's history points far more to him being successful as a combo 2 guard. His assists may go down, but I bet he still does well on steals, points and perhaps even bumps up on rebounds. If he's great with Wall, I think we strongly consider keeping him for the length of the contract. Again, talent like that doesn't come around very often. If he becomes more of a "me-first, get my stats" kind of guy, I still contend he has lots more value at the trade deadline than he does today. In short, unless internally he's proving to be a continuing cancer, I see no real argument for trading Gil now.
