Ernie Grunfeld is trying his best to screw the Knicks but I don't think he plans to dump Arenas on us. After he helped both Bulls and Nets, I think Walsh would hang up the phone if he calls ! LOL
Some could argue he's trying to help his team using his cap space to acquire players for nothing but Hinrich and Yi ain't that good and don't help his team much. Hinrich could probably help a playoff team (Lakers wanted him to replace Derek Fisher) but he's the kind of player who sucks on a bad or average team. About the Jared Jeffries trade, there's no indication Ernie Grunfeld would have accepted Jared Jeffries or would have accepted to help the Knicks clear more cap space because we didn't have our first round pick. Not to mention Ernie could have called Walsh when the whole league knew any team accepting Jared Jeffries would also get Jordan Hill and our 2012 first round pick (+ a swap in 2011). Grunfeld had enough expiring contracts to make a deal with the Knicks. If he didn't do it at the deadline I just can't see why he would have done it in june or july. So far only Washington accepted to use its cap space to help other teams. I don't think it means we overpaid that much, it probably means Washington gave the Bulls and the Nets a discount. Two years ago, the Suns traded two future unprotected first round picks to get rid of Kurt Thomas and his contract. Last year the Nuggets gave up their 2010 first round pick to get rid of Chris Hunter's $4 mil deal. Both the Suns and Nuggets wanted to avoid the tax or reduce their tax payments. Now you have the greatest free agency bonanza ever and a GM (Ernie Grunfeld) simply accepted to bail other teams out for little compensation. Grunfeld is acting like a cheap whore ready to give a discount to buy her dose of crack. It's as simple as that. Instant cap space is a tremendous asset and should get you more than Hinrich or Yi !
