Re: LeBron Free Agency 2010
I think Stephen A. did break the Shaq to Miami trade. And he also broke the Kobe wanted to be traded talk when all that drama was going on.
Not saying that he can't be wrong. I am just saying he's also had some dead on hits.

Throw enough sh!+ at the wall and something eventually will stick. I see Bucher is reporting that the Cavs arent interested in any S&T for Lebron. Well, that is what a lot of us figured. If he leaves, its all on him, and we go into rebuild mode immediately.

Or if you S&T him, you have that exact same option plus draft picks...

Cleveland losing LeBron kinda brings a smile to my face after what their front office pulled last year with the Antawn Jamison for free trade, and Big Z coming back. Sorry Cleveland fans who actually still like Bron

Its not the first time thats been done. And in fact, it backfiring the way it did and the fact it cost our team on the salary cap may well be the reason Lebron leaves since we have no real flexibility to acquire anyone without a S&T.
And as for a S&T with Lebron, that subject has been beat to death on this board, I was commenting on the fact that Bucher is reporting that the team has no interest in any kind of S&T for him. Which doesnt surprise me at all.

You mean what just about every other NBA team has done in the past? How dare the Cavs play by the rules. Remember that the Wizards did NOT have to waive Big Z if they did not want to.

If thats "playing by the rules", then im sure you had no problem at all with the lakers trade to get Gasol, right?

It's idiotic to blame the Cavs front office for the Jamison trade. There was never any guarantee that Washington was going to release Z to begin with.

I highly doubt that, I think it was already set up that way.

Why would I have a problem with the Lakers trade for Gasol? I may question what the Grizzlies received, but that would be a criticism aimed at the Memphis GM and not the actual trade itself. Similarly, the GM that deserves the criticism is the Wizards. The Cavs did nothing that is not already allowed.

Oh I think that the Cavs were of the belief that the Wiz had no need for him other than as a contract, but no matter what you might think, it was totally up to them what they did after the trade.
There is far more evidence of tampering with LeBron than there ever was of the Cavs doing anything wrong in the Jamison trade. That being said, I also have no problem with the Lakers trade other than the fact that I think there were better trades out there for Memphis.

Guys, its a Wiz fan, and no matter how many teams have done the same thing in the past, we are the ones cheating in his mind.

Not a Wiz fan, just a John Wall fan. And its not just that trade that was shady, theres plenty trades like that that happen, Spurs have done it quite a few times, NBA needs to make the rules less leniant

Yes in retrospect, gunning for a title through the use of the MLE and BAE was a mistake. At the same time if ORL had made all these improvements and we had stood pat after losing to them last year to preserve cap space, Lebron would have been pissed - so it was a lose lose scenario.
The real mistake is we kind of did a little of both. Ferry made deals with the idea of having 2010 cap space (see Shaq instead of Kaman, sitting on the Wally contract) and then mid-stream changed to adding contracts like Moon, Parker, Jamison, etc. that would eat the cap space.
We should have picked a direction and stuck to it, but that's easy to say in hindsight. And we did post the best record in the league 2 years straight...

OK, this I agree with. Why the Cavs hate then? Is it Lebron you dont like, or is it that a team with Lebron took avantage of a shady rule (which is what I think)? Edit: typo

I just hate that rule pretty much, they need to revise it and make restrictions on trades so we dont get another "Laker gift" I blame Stern

Re: LeBron Free Agency 2010
There is no way to revise the trade rules to preclude a gift like the lakers received. They just found a team that wanted out of a top 10-15 player deal (which is odd). The NBA has never really ever stepped in to prevent a team from screwing themselves.

Well, they have, and it was for our team. I'm sure you remember the Stepian rule. Sadly for those of us who are old enough to remember, those were some horrible years.

Re: LeBron Free Agency 2010
The Stepien rule allowed the NBA to review blatantly bad trades, but I really don't know of any that they've blocked. It also prevented people from trading consecutive 1st rounders.
