Danny Darko wrote:How many guys are in the coaches favor on the D-Line. To me whatever your current stamina rating is can be improved, so I would never let that deter you. How do you stack up against the guys on the D line size-wise?

Some of it's how you play, but no doubt alot is politics. in that regard having a heart to heart with the lb coach and vowing dedication could be the best bet, or staying late to ask the line coach what he wants from you to earn reps

Well first off, could you answer my question in my other post?

Do you think that my size is more LB material than D-Line material right?

I'm not sure what you mean by favoring the D-line, but all I know is I'd still play offensive line if you read my post correctly, It's about playing LB or D-Line right now. My Head Coach also told me that the more positions you could play the more useful you will be on the team and the more likely you'll be used to play a game, so I wouldn't mind being a LB that could play D-Line or vice versa.

There are a lot of guys my size though, some are stronger by a lot, some are weaker, some have the same strength as me. It's kind of an undersized line, but we do have some big fellas at the same time. I also don't really want reps as a d-line at the same time because most of the time I stand no chance and I don't do much, I don't really make plays like other linemen have the ability to do, but it just makes me upset that I won't even be put in as a 3rd or 4th string linemen

So what do you think? Could you answer my question?

What's your height & weight and are you still growing(I assume you are and you're a fresh)?

Well I posted this stuff in the RealGM off-topic, but since they are being stupid, I decided to ask fellow Laker fans. I'm around 5'10, 185 lbs. I'm going to be a senior next season and the main reason why I am joining is because I Don't want to leave High School with regrets.

What do you think I should do in my situation?

Dude that's rough. I say take up a different sport, only because you say you don't have the speed or stamina for it. That's like a DB, RB, WR size. If you got in shape would you still not be able to compete?

HS being a O or D lineman is a waste it seems like to me at your size and weight. That's like tryng to fit a square into a circle pattern.

I say do something you are passionate about and are willing to work hard at, because if you aren't willing to work and if you are in it for the girls and the cool parties and a cool lettermans jacket try out for Drama class instead.

Shoot I didn't get it until I didn't make the Soph basketball team. I was shocked, but after the shock i worked harder than ever that offseason and made the team jr and sr year.

Do something you give a crap about and work hard at it. I'd look for a different position. Shoot if RB, WR, DB isn't going to work out for you, be the best special teams guy on the team.

There's always long snapper ;).

Duba is right about your size, but I think you just want to play and aren't hunting for college play time or NFL right? It's all good to be that size at any position other than LT in highschool if you have some chops.

your size is definitely high school Safety or LB size. Didn't realize you were play O-Lineman- I thought maybe Defensive End was what you meant by line. I would get the hell off the O-line and start dedicating yourself to increasing your stamina and your speed. You can definitely be part of a LB rotation if you can improve your stamina and burst.

O-Linemen getting reps in front of you are probably guys the QB trusts that have played with him a few years. hard to break into that niche

If your head coach has advice follow it.

I would, but I'm not close at least to the other WRs, RBs, and DBs

HS being a O or D lineman is a waste it seems like to me at your size and weight. That's like tryng to fit a square into a circle pattern.
There is a guy starting, who is literally the same height and weight as I am, Starting left guard, but he's suspended for the first 3 games for doing illegal things. (Not Steroids)

I say do something you are passionate about and are willing to work hard at, because if you aren't willing to work and if you are in it for the girls and the cool parties and a cool lettermans jacket try out for Drama class instead.

No, I am not in it for that. I am in it because I don't want to leave HS with regrets and I always wanted to play on the HS football team.

Do something you give a crap about and work hard at it. I'd look for a different position. Shoot if RB, WR, DB isn't going to work out for you, be the best special teams guy on the team.

Too slow for those positions, RB is the position I always dreamed of playing but I'm too slow. Maybe H or fullback I should say.

Danny Darko wrote:I think you just want to play and aren't hunting for college play time or NFL right? It's all good to be that size at any position other than LT in highschool if you have some chops.

Correct.

I am a Defensive End when I play on defense. But we run a 3-4, so it's almost impossible to do anything anyways, since all 3 of the Linemen are doubled and that's why I don't get reps. I have no choice but play offensive line because I'm too slow for any other offensive position. I don't mind O-Line that much though, it just takes memorization and quick feet, doesn't take that much speed or stamina.

O-Linemen getting reps in front of you are probably guys the QB trusts that have played with him a few years. hard to break into that niche
Basically, or Juniors that have experience playing O-Line in the past.

If your head coach has advice follow it.
Yeah, I think I might want to ask him again and ask him what he thinks about all this. or Maybe I should ask the Defensive Coordinator If I could try Linebacker, but I don't really want him to re-teach me all the things he taught the other LBs in the past. Then again it would technically be the head coach's fault for taking me out for a while. Another problem i Have with LBs is that some of the guys just don't like me, Like I remember there was this time where the Head Coach told me to go to D-Line to try it out, one of hte LBs sounded excited and he basically finished it for him and said "Yo, D-Line is over there, you should go there." I mean, I felt insulted since the guy sounded like he really wanted me out.

What do you think? Talk to the D-Coordinator/LB coach this time or/and the Head coach again??

I definitely say talk to both head and D coaches. Of course some other lb wanting reps wants you to stop competing against him for reps and he probably works the good ol boy fiends with the other guys factor. Dont take it personally, even though he'll make it seem that way. Go bust ass and blow some people up with good form. Really if you can be a consistent tackler with good leverage you will make a huge impression. Guys at that position tend to be meat heads looking to blow someone up and taking big whiffs because of it.

Avoid the DE spot in the 3-4 for just the reason you stated. Who wants to be double teamed the whole game while the linebackers get to fly through gaps and press the edges. Watch a few of those videos I linked to, use some of the terminology to the coaches and tell them you'll be there most consistent tackler.

Remember this is football, it's an angry competitive sport. Feel free to have a good sense of humor, but let every insult roll off your back or give it back to them. Don't be afraid to be scrappy even in practice. No regrets means not just taking up a roster spot. So dedicate yourself to finding a quick short burst, being a point guard like vision guy, and the art of angles and effective form tackling.

Anyone would love to have CA, but at his asking price and what the Lakers would have to give up. It would fill one hole and open up 2 or more others. Lakers would have to dump a lot of salary and LO would not be enough. Draft picks are low second and are not known outside the LVSL. I think we pass on CA. They would do it for Pau and other parts. Lakers would not.

i'm not trying to be malicious or anything, and I could very well be wrong, but I still think he's trying to pad his post #s. Every single thread or topic he's started or perpetuated has just been a dig to get more posts. IMO.

Don't know what's so confusing, all I was asking Danny Darko was a football problem I was having with my team. Again, Happy Birthday my man, I hope you had a good one.
