Portland needs to add at least 2.3 million. If they have Jerryd Bayless, he'd be outstanding filler.

The thing about BYC, will, is that Brandon Roy's outgoing trade value to Portland is only 50% of his actual salary. Even though he'll make 13.7, his value to Portland is 6.8 million. The deal works for LA, because they take on his full salary, so 11 and 13 for 24 is good, but it's only 7 and 11 for Portland, which doesn't match 24. Does any of that make sense?

We HATE to give up so much, we really do. Had to think about this for a long time (and still thinking to be honest), but the purpose of acquiring multiple assets earlier in the game is to get a player I could finally build around. With Granger, we feel we can do that. With Stuckey, and Beasley around Granger, and some expirings, we hope we can build something that can compete now, and grow in the future.

Rationale: Orlando is so sorry to trade Dwight Howard. This organization never had intention of moving him, but our desire is to put a championship basketball team on the court. The transition from Howard to Ming will be a smooth one. These are the two best centers in the NBA and any club would be lucky to have either one. What swung this for us was receiving Brooks, Martin, and Ariza. Swapping them for our worst contracts allows so much more flexibility. We feel like as our roster currently stands, we will have 6 or 7 guys that go off for 20 on any given night. Further trades will need to be made to open playing time for those who deserve it.

Addressing Yao Ming: We are concerned about his contract status and his health concerns, but if he is playing at a high level, we will be the team to be in the NBA. This, coupled with the mass of fans he brings with him, was sufficient for us to sign off on this deal.

Houston receives the best center in the NBA before he even hits his prime. We wish Dwight and his new organization the best of luck going forward.

Houston waives the unguranteed contracts of Mike Harris and Alexander Johnson before the trade. Rockets accept. It was tough to basically give up 4 of my core pieces + Patterson for D12 and a bunch of contracts but D12 is the best center in the league I had to acquire to build around. I was in a position with talent but not enough playing time for everyone so I had to trade quantity for quality. I will find a way to deal with the contracts but Maggette is a solid scorer and Blake is a decent PG. We wish Martin, Yao, Ariza, Brooks and Patterson luck in the future.
