But I like Gallo too darn much. People who watched him last year know that he's a gifted player and I feel that NYK would be losing the talent swap to win the size swap. I wouldn't do it.
But there was a poll on this on the knicks board and the feeling was pretty divided.
I don't get the whole talent swap argument though. If you were trading Gallo for, say, a Marcus Camby, who's not really a skilled big man, just a guy who crashes the boards and blocks shots, I can understand. But Lopez is a guy that put up 19 ppg last season, primarily from the low post. He's got great footwork and hands, and he also has a nice midrange jumper. A guy who puts up close to 20/10, with a low post game, great footwork, soft hands, and a decent jumper is a pretty damn skilled big man imo. Gallo is skilled for his position, while Lopez is skilled for his position. And Lopez is probably the 3rd best center in the East, behind Howard and Bogut. If he improves his defense, which is very doable under Avery and Sam Mitchell, I think he surpasses Bogut.
That's a very fair argument, and I don't watch the nets, so I don't really know Lopez.
But, I watched Gallo last year and I loved what I saw. Also, I think there's room for improvement. I think Gallo can improve on his 38% from 3, and I saw him make some really sweet passes. Gallo, at times, is larry birdlike the way he hits the open man. He plays the game the right way and the knicks last year had a bunch of guys who played in the wrong way and Gallo was the only guy on the court with a brain.
So, maybe I'm overrating him because he has a brain, but I really liked what I saw in him, and combine that with his age and the fact that last year was like a rookie season - I'm high on gallo.
Maybe brook is better, and to be fair, I didn't really watch the guy. It's a knick fans prerogative to hate the nets.
