I think Howard said this partly because he wanted to take a jab at LeBron for going to Miami, Orlando's natural rival.
But really I have been saying this since Durant was a rookie that it isn't out of the question for KD to become a better player than LeBron. Of course all the 14 year olds think that it's impossible but if you watch enough ball for long enough you know that guys get better. You could see Durant was special back at Texas.
If Lebron puts up his typical, 28pts 7.5rebs, 7.5dimes, 1.5stls and 1block (obviously monsterous numbers) but if KD improves some a puts up 32pts, 10rebs, 4dimes, 2stls and 2blks is it that big of a stretch to call him the best player in the game?
No Durant isn't better than LeBron today (IMO), but could he be by the end of the season? Possibly, not likely but it's possible.

Then he asked Howard, if Durant was on the Kobe and LeBron level? Howard asked what level is that and Patrick replied best in the game level.
And Howard said yes. Then he asked who would he rather have on his team LeBron or Durant. And Howard said Durant.
Looks like RealGM misquoted the article. Nice work RealGm.
By the way do you have the link for that Durantula pic? I requested a sig from Netsforce for a Durant sig almost exactly like that but he got waived from the forum before he could complete it.

Im sorry, but why do you say that? What I read in the article was this:
Dwight Howard was asked during a radio interview which player he thought was better between Kevin Durant and LeBron James.
"I'm gonna go with Kevin," Howard said.
This cannot be misunderstood, Dwight said he thnks Kevin is better. Whether he meant it or not, or he just said it because he likes Kevin more or would prefer playing with Kevin or he believes Kevin WILL be better one day, those are all guesses, but what he actually said is pretty clear.
